Are Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes hitting pause on their friendship??
The Kansas City Chiefs kicked off their NFL season on Thursday night with a victory against the Baltimore Ravens at their home stadium. The pop star was there, enjoying the game alongside her boyfriend Travis Kelce‘s family and other WAGs. Except one very noteworthy person wasn’t around: her bestie Brittany!
Interestingly, Patrick Mahomes‘ wife WAS at the game — she was just in a totally different suite than Taylor, watching the game instead with her daughter Sterling Skye. They weren’t even seen photographed together at any time before or after the game. Kinda strange considering how close they got last season. Not to mention the Mahomes were just at the singer’s Rhode Island home late last month for a big house party.

So, what changed?
Well, Brittany’s made waves online recently for liking an Instagram post in support of Donald Trump and the GOP‘s plan to “Make America Great Again” (below):

She liked the post in mid-August, but fans didn’t notice the show of support until right after the summer bash. Since then, Britt’s defended herself online and the controversial presidential candidate even gave her a shout-out on his platform Truth Social on Wednesday, writing:
“I want to thank beautiful Brittany Mahomes for so strongly defending me […] it is nice to see someone who loves our Country, and wants to save it from DOOM. What a great couple – See you both at the Super Bowl!”
While the Lover singer hasn’t endorsed a candidate yet, she has been very publicly against The Celebrity Apprentice star, saying in 2020 that the convicted felon was “stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism.” At the time, she endorsed Joe Biden and it is believed she’ll show her support for Kamala Harris closer to the upcoming November election. Seeing as the friends appear to be on opposite ends of the political spectrum, could politics be why they weren’t seen together??
Perhaps, like so many others, their differing opinions tore a wedge in their friendship? It’s possible. Or maybe (especially given Trump’s latest comments) Taylor just wanted to keep her distance publicly from Brittany so as not to overshadow her boyfriend’s game with all this political drama? We could see this being a strategic PR move, especially considering they were just seen hanging out together days ago!
BTW, if they’re really as close friends as they seem, Brittany’s political stance probably wasn’t a shocker to Taylor — and not everyone breaks up a friendship over this kind of thing. But it seems likely that the songwriter (or her team) knew the optics wouldn’t be so good in light of all this and are trying to push off the sighting until later in the season, hoping the political scandal will have died down by then. Hmm.
