Taylor Swift Fans Defend Travis Kelce From 'Disgusting' Response To His Reading Comments

Taylor Swift Fans Defend Travis Kelce Reading Comments

Don’t mess with Taylor Swift. Or her man.

Swifties and longtime Kansas City Chiefs stans alike were appalled this week at the reaction to something Travis Kelce admitted on a podcast. Trav was on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast talking about his SNL experience.

With his usual humility, he immediately mentioned how his weaknesses got in the way:

“The writers’ rooms were fun because you’re just getting pitched ideas. The table reading, for a guy that can’t really read that well, it was kind of a f**ked situation.”

He elaborated:

“I felt like I was just trying to get through the reading instead of actually acting it out and giving it a voice and giving it a character and things like that. I was just focused on, ‘Don’t f**king skip this line.'”

First off, he was talking about cold reading a script, something that’s a really specialized skill — something even some seasoned actors struggle with. And he’s brand new at the profession. Second, a celeb openly admitting, without shame, that he has some reading issues, would be refreshing. Illiteracy and learning disabilities like dyslexia are all too common and rarely addressed — mostly because of the stigma around them.

But a lot of trolls online took this as an opportunity to use Trav as a punching bag. In comments we won’t share here, some critics made a big deal of the “huge mental age gap” between him and Taylor, some just called him “stupid,” and the worst started using the r-slur since that’s notably back in fashion.

Well, Tay’s fans aren’t going to stand for it. They took to Twitter to defend KillaTrav, writing:

“nah sorry this f**king pissed me off especially the quotes and comments. man kinda notably has dyslexia, and like as someone with dyslexia its genuinely disgusting seeing how people reacted here. Genuinely what happened to any empathy”

“this generally pisses me the f**k off as somebody who has dyslexia myself and has a child that has learning disabilities. he’s so open and kind. he’s such a good guy and s**t like this is what makes the news. there’s nothing wrong with having a struggle.”

“people making fun of him in the quotes are really weird. what he is describing sounds similar to dyslexia. even if he hasn’t got it, people with it will see your tweets making fun of and insulting something they struggle with. also the use of slurs is disgusting”

“i’m gonna be so brave and say that even if he doesn’t have dyslexia it’s still really f**ked up to make fun of someone for not reading well”

“I tried to stay quiet but I can’t. I have dyscalculia and have very similar struggles but with math. Learning differences are incredibly common and being open with your struggles can help so many people. Half of you commenting use ChatGPT for everything, shut the f**k up.”

“I know that Travis doesn’t care what people say or don’t pay attention to what people say. But I do see it and it kind makes me a little uneasy how comfortable people are making fun of him”

We love how much the Swifties have his back now! We should note, we don’t think Trav has actually said he has dyslexia, even if he’s mentioned reading struggles before. But still, their defense is sweet. And they’re right, no one should be mocking Trav for this!
