Her album Lover literally dropped a few days ago — so a performance is truly the best treat!
Taylor Swift opened the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards with a rousing rendition of a couple of her new hits, including You Need To Calm Down to open everything up, before she slowed everything down and transitioned over to Lover.

The performance was the perfect show opener, both high energy and slowed down with two of the hottest new songs out right now! The country music star-turned-pop superstar killed it… and it was the perfect way to kick things off from New Jersey tonight, in our humble opinion!!! Check it out (below):
This has been a massive few weeks for Taylor. Not only did her new LP shoot to number one practically everywhere, but it’s the first album she actually owns.
In case you need a drama catch up, Tay put her former label Big Machine in crosshairs back in June by sharing a Tumblr post in which she claimed Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun purchased a large chunk of her music. She apparently was not given the opportunity to do it herself.
Since then, the Paper Rings artist said she’d be re-recording and re-releasing all of her songs to compete with the old masters. This obviously pissed off former BM head Scott Borchetta, who took to Instagram to compare the new tracks to a copy of the Mona Lisa.
He shared alongside a photo of the iconic painting:
