Teen Mom Amber Portwood has been doing super well since she was released early from her jail stint.
But don’t expect her to be getting custody of her little one anytime soon!
Gary Shirley is happy that his baby momma is out of prison and doing well, but he still doesn’t trust her enough to share custody of their daughter Leah with her.
Or at least that is what he says!
“Well, everyone knows that she went to jail for drugs and stuff. I’m not saying that she’ll ever get back into that, but I hear stories of how easy it is [to relapse] because that pressure is always there. . I don’t want to screw myself over [by agreeing to joint custody] and then have to fight for Leah. So I think it’s going to stay the way it is, just to protect Leah.”
The reason why he isn’t wiling to risk Leah is a noble one. He says it’s because he loves her so!
He said:
“It’s because I’ve grown, and I have a bond with my daughter that’s special, and I don’t want that to ever go away. [Amber] being away gave me a chance to get to know my daughter in a way most guys don’t.”
Still, Gary isn’t upset that Amber is out of prison or anything. He says her presence is good for their daughter.
He said:
├óΓé¼┼ôLeah├óΓé¼Γäós excited! She├óΓé¼Γäós glad that Mommy├óΓé¼Γäós home. ├óΓé¼┬ª Sometimes I let Leah stay the night over [with Portwood at her grandmother’s] before school so her hair is all nicely done for school.├óΓé¼┬¥
And he’s also noticed a big difference in her personality since she’s returned from prison. He said:
“I feel like she has her daughter in mind more. But I thinks she’s still adjusting to being out of prison. She needs to accept Leah at the age she is, versus the age she was when Amber went away. Leah’s smarter and more independent now, and it’s hard [for Amber] to say, ‘Wow, you’re not a baby any more. I don’t have to hold the cup for you!’”
We’re sure Amber will get used to her new grasp on life soon enough. And once she does, then…
…we hope these two will be able to work something out!
