According to the WWF, it is possible that in 12 years when the calendar year of the tiger comes around, tigers can be extinct.
Shrinking habitats, illegal hunting and the trade of tiger parts for medicine has been constantly decreasing the tiger population to about 3,200 tigers today.
The WWF is leading a global campaign to attempt to double the number of tigers by 2022.
This campaign will be achieved through “increased political involvement, focus on the tiger landscapes that have the greatest chance of long term retention of the tiger, and increased control of tiger trade,” said Ola Jannersten of the WWF in Sweden.
This is sad news.
We really hope this new initiative does some good for the tigers!
