Homer Simpson! Praise on!
In an effort to get more subscribers believers attention, the Vatican’s newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, has directed its attention to pop culture in the last few years, usually to penalize a TV show or movie for not being one with God.
But rest easy, Springfield, because the Almighty is a-okay with The Simpsons and in a recent report, even dubbed the show’s patriarch a “true catholic.”
Now, we realize that sounds rather silly, considering that Homer is the poster child for gluttony and he was once a man who described the religon as “the one with all the well-meaning rules that don’t work in real life,” but nevertheless, the Pope has given his blessing onto them.
As the Vatican sees it, God and religon have always played a part in the series. The article points out that the family “recites prayers before meals and, in their own peculiar way, believes in the life thereafter” and that the show who is one of the few left for “children in which Christian faith, religion, and questions about God are recurrent themes.”
While we see where they are getting at, we can’t help but point out the satyrical nature of the show and perhaps the fact that the Vatican isn’t quite catching on to the subtext of the show. Also, we can’t help but want proof that God is cool with us all gorging ourselves on doughnuts and beer!
But congrats to you anyways, Homer! Enjoy the Pearly Gates, when and if your show ever dies!
What do U think? Is the Vatican reaching for cool points or do they actually have a point?
