Wendy Williams Snuck Out Of Care Facility & Got Drunk On Her Birthday, Claims Doc

Wendy Williams was reportedly moved to a much more restrictive unit in her New York City assisted living facility! Why? As punishment for relapsing! Oh no…

In a new documentary titled TRAPPED: What Is Happening to Wendy Williams? out on Monday, investigative journalist Diane Dimond claimed the former talk show host currently lives on a secure floor of the facility now. She got moved after she was caught getting drunk on her birthday last summer, the journo claims:

“Wendy was on the third floor in this care unit, where she has access to the hallways, to the elevators. And on her birthday, she decided to get in the elevator and see where she could go. Well, it went all the way up to the rooftop bar, and it being her birthday, she ordered a drink, and then another one, and another. Who knows how many, but she will admit to you that she got drunk, she had a relapse.”

Oh no.

Wendy has struggled with addiction as well as other health issues, so the fact she snuck in even just a few drinks was concerning to those looking after her. (And it sounds like a LOT of drinks tbh.) As punishment — and a form of continued “treatment” — they moved her into a locked-down unit:

“Her treatment is to be sent to a much more restrictive ward. And that was the fifth floor, the memory care unit, where she has a room with a bathroom and a television, and she is locked into that floor 24/7 unless the guardian gives her permission to go out once in a while.”

They really don’t trust her anymore!

During an appearance on The View in March, Wendy was candid about the fact she “celebrated” her b-day in July last year when she turned 60 — but insisted she was once again sober. She explained on the show:

“[My] relationship [with substances] is fine and is wonderful. I’ve had my devices and I have to tell you something: I am easily going on with my life, alcohol-free.”

But alcoholism can be such a tricky addiction — and combined with memory issues as well, it’s a rough combination. Sadly, it cost her the last bit of freedom she allegedly had. In recent months, she’s been very vocal about wanting out of her current living situation, comparing it to being stuck “in prison.”

As Perezcious readers know, Wendy was put under guardianship in 2022 and has been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Also in the documentary, doctors shared their thoughts on her FTD diagnosis, suggesting there’s also the possibility she actually has alcohol-induced dementia. Brain disorder expert Daniel Amen shared:

“Alcohol is one of the main causes of cognitive decline and dementia. In fact, I believe that alcoholic dementia is the second most common cause.”

As the former radio DJ has been speaking out more and more about her legal and living situation in a plea to get out of her guardianship, her guardian requested she undergo a more thorough medical evaluation, including “neurological and psychological testing,” but Wendy has allegedly dodged the evaluation, something she denied in April. Hmm.

It’s obviously a complicated situation. With her birthday just weeks away again, we wonder what things will be like this year. Sounds like she’ll have a much better chance of staying sober… but will she be as miserable as she sounds?
