If it comes from the microwave it must be healthy, right?
If your lunch break is a Lean Cuisine there are a few things you should know.
Most Lean Cuisines contain between 200 and 400 calories. That’s awesome for entire meal. However, if you’ve ever had an LC you might have noticed the meals are very tiny.
Nutritionists say that the dinners are small for the amount of calories they contain, and what’s more is that they have very little nutrients. This means that the meals are packed with empty calories – calories from ingredients like sugars, salts and white breads. These calories are non-nutritious and do not fill you up.
This sucks for two reasons.
One is that after you eat your so-called meal, you’ll still be hungry and eat more. Usually fatty-snack food.
Secondly, these meals are very expensive for the amount of nutrients they contain. You’re paying a high price for a meal that will not fill you up.
Another concern is Lean Cuisines contain several ingredients that are just not healthy for you. While 80 percent of the meals boast no preservatives, many meals still contain food coloring and other chemicals. If you look at the list of ingredients there will surely be a you cannot pronounce.
What’s worse – a single Lean Cuisine meal often has an entire day’s allowance of sodium in it!!! While it’s not always detrimental to have a little more salt than is good for you now and then, that much sodium over and over can be baaad.
So are LC’s bad for you? No. But they aren’t good for you either!
If you can handle the small amounts it’s not a bad choice a couple times a week.
