Any REAL Feminist would never deny the title to Sarah Palin on the basis of disagreement with Sarah's political ideology. Go Camille!

  6. DaLa says – reply to this

    6

Palin is a feminist like Dr. Laura is a feminist… Which means SHE can do whatever she wants but all other women should barefoot, pregnant and completely dependent on a man.

  7. 7

Palin is not a fucking Feminist. Far from it.

  8. 8

Well Camille is also a horndog. Sounds like she needs a little Palin time.

  9. 9

that's way too much to read….

  10. 10

Re: abercorey – you might never wanna go back. i can do almost anything a gay guy can do and i just use spit for that! xoxo

  11. 11

Any idiot who does not support a Women's right to choose (OVER HER OWN BODY) is NO feminist. Give me a freakin break. Keep your laws OFF my body.

  12. 12

Palin is a robot. She doesn't have her own views, she just wants her foot in the white house. She reminds me of a gay republican, doesn't really make too much sense. Pretty face though!

  13. 13

I double majored in Women's Studies and she is a Feminist.
    -
All feminists don't have to adhere to the same view points. She's a great women who is strong minded, intellengent, has great traditional family values, she may be pro-life, while I'm pro-choice, but there's nothing wrong with that and she's a compassionate person who couldn't imagine giving up her child..it doesn't make her anti-feminist. Just the fact that she has a big family and a great job makes her a femenist for equal opportunities for women in the workplace!
    -
    Main Entry: fem·i·nism
    Pronunciation: \ˈfe-mə-ˌni-zəm\
    Function: noun
    Date: 1895
1 : the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes
2 : organized activity on behalf of women's rights and interests

    Re: mrsrpd
You are ignorant and don't understand Feminism. The far left radicals don't OWN it.

  15. 15

Re: Maramia – Wrong. Do some research.

  16. 16

Re: Smirks – True. And it hurt to say it ; )

  17. 17

    Re: _Alice_
    Thank you. :)
For the cause of Feminism I was really rooting for Hillary - even though I lean the other way. Would have really like to see her on the Dem ticket. She is way more qualified than Obama and way more centrist. Sigh.

  18. 18

This woman is obviously senile. Palin is the arch-enemy of feminists everywhere, and her backwards views on things do not speak to women at all. If you care about women's rights, vote Obama '08!! I can't believe anyone would vote for Palin, a sad and pathetic excuse for a VP candidate.

  19. 19

What an extremely educated and thoughtul column. See, when democrats really do some soul searching and actually eat some humble pie or really look at why they believe what they believe that shows a great amount of integrity. This lady is not afraid to admit gray in the democratic party. She doesn't see everything as black and white. I especially love this exerpt from her column:

The witch-trial hysteria of the past two incendiary weeks unfortunately reveals a disturbing trend in the Democratic Party, which has worsened over the past decade. Democrats are quick to attack the religiosity of Republicans, but Democratic ideology itself seems to have become a secular substitute religion. Since when did Democrats become so judgmental and intolerant? Conservatives are demonized, with the universe polarized into a Manichaean battle of us versus them, good versus evil. Democrats are clinging to pat group opinions as if they were inflexible moral absolutes. The party is in peril if it cannot observe and listen and adapt to changing social circumstances.

    VERY THOUGHTFUL AND INTELLIGENT INSIGHT

  20. 20

Being a feminist does not reduce one to supporting the death of unborn children under any circumstance

  21. 21

    Re: wildmidwestern

well lawd, that sounds like a challege…I love challenges :)

  22. 22

A feminist who DOES NOT believe in women's right? Bitch, please. You cna't call a female a feminist if she doesn't believe a woman has the right to control her own body, mind and behavior. Sarah Plain-pain does NOT belive in equal pay for equal work. She does NOT believe in women controling their own bodies. She is anti-choice. It's a damn insult to women's rights to have that beauty queen as representative of female empowerment. She's backward. She's NO hilary and NEVER will be. Hilary is a feminist, not her.

  23. 23

She lost my respect and vote once I found out her daughter is pregnant. She threw her daughter out there to the masses and media making her the poster child of young, unwed mothers. I can't imagine any young woman would want to be thrust into the spotlight in such a fashion particularly at a time in your life when you'd much rather be out with your friends "hanging out" than going to the RNC being paraded about as having virtues because you chose to have a child instead of having an abortion.

Timing wise, if her daughter wasn't pregnant and already had the child I wouldn't feel the way I do about her however, I view her as a fame and power hungry whore that doesn't care who she steps on to get what she wants. A parent should consider protect their child instead of tossing them to the international media. To the people that think Bristol attended because she wanted to, I rather doubt it. I'm sure there were threats thrown about that if you don't do as I say you are out of the house, I won't support you, etc.

Republician hypocrisy at it's finest. It's okay if it happens to one of "ours" but heaven forbid if the Democrats do it as well.

    BS

Camile Paglia CALLS herself a feminist. The feminist community disowns her & all of her viewpoints.
    Don't believe everything you read.
Calling Paglia a feminist is almost as stupid as saying
having 5 kinds & being mayor of wasilla, (the meth capital of the US)
    make you a qualified candidate,

So I'm off today, right, and I'm all ready to watch Merv Griffin's Crosswords, but then some bullshit show comes on instead-The Bonnie Hunt Show or something. What evil fuckery is this? Dammit.

  27. 27

Whao, I read the article and it's very interesting. Ms Paglia is a feminist that despise Hillary and was voting for Obama. But her analysis about Mrs. Palin give us another look at the woman that is changing the present politics of USA. Why Mrs. Palin is relevant? Becasue she is the future of the Republican Party. Because, like Reagan, she connects with the real people, the real woman of this country. She is fearless, attractive, strong, witty and hey..she kills her own food…The woman is really unic. A breath of fresh air!

Obama tried to be funny calling Palin "A pig with lipstick, still a pig" - For a man who refused to have a woman as his running mate, that joke was a big mistake.

But hey, the guy is inexperience, egotistic and a born muzlim…We can't expect him to think, woman are his equal…..

  28. 28

Or that Palin is a feminist, because she is a working mom

  29. 29

    Re: Yadayada
Please, bitch. Support of Roe v. Wade is not a litmus test for Feminism. Don't be ignorant.

  30. 30

    Re: Yumm-ay
…and if she didn't toss her daughter out there the DNC hit-squad unleashed in Alaska would have dug it up anyway and accused them of trying to "hide" it. Get real.

  31. 31

    Re: succulent
The Radical Left does not OWN Feminism. Get over it.

  32. 32

    Re: Steveo78
Gay republicans don't make a good sense? One the most important gay groups in this country is lead my a Gay REPUBLICAN. The problem with the left is that they are really disconnect from the people. I'm a democrat that refuse to pay more taxes, I strongly support any bills against terrorism and think that the prisioners in Guantanamo deserve worst than they have it….

But I also believe in same sex marriage and that woman should decide what to do with their body, not the goverment.

You see, life is not black or white, it's a lot of color….Think, do not repeat what a political group tell you. Think for yourself.

I'm a democrat that will be voting for McCain/Palin because I don't trust Barack Hussein Obama and his terrorist friends.

  33. 33

It's good to see that so many people can call a spade a spade… Camille Paglia obviously has an ass-backwards definition of feminism, and Palin is a Judas Goat… we as women must not allow a regression to the dark ages!

    WOMEN FOR OBAMA/BIDEN '08

  34. 34

Re: COCACOLA – And McCain blatantly USING Palin as a gimmick… that's seeing women as equal?

    HA HA HA

  35. 35

It is a dark day for Feminism when it does not respect the accomplishments of all females regardless of political orientation. You are the antithesis of a Feminist.

  36. 36

Re: Smirks – Yah, I suppose there is the Republicon-safe version as well

  37. 37

Come on- This is Palin's big chance. In 4 years from now she'll be going through menopause, & the people of this country won't enjoy looking at her anymore.
    Now's the time!

  38. 38

Re: Smirks – Yes, I agree. But I still worship Ron Paul. I can't help it. I tear up thinking about him in the oval office. *sigh* A girl can dream……

  39. 39

camille = the erudyke sarah palin….

  40. 40

Re: COCACOLA – I think that makes you a social liberal and an economic conservative.

  41. 41

Re: Smirks – She shouldn't have ran. Period.

  42. 42

I will always give credit to a liberal when they intelligently speak the truth (thankfully I don't have to give them credit often since intelligence and liberalism are oxymorons…if democrats had any brains they'd be republicans)
Miss Paglia lays out the leftist view and calls the democraps on their hypocrisy…she writes:
"Feminism, which should be about equal rights and equal opportunity, should not be a closed club requiring an ideological litmus test for membership."
So, take that all you libtards with all your Sarah Palin is anti-woman rhetoric… her prolife stance does not void her membership as a feminist.

  43. 43

in case you were looking for the word/words that describe your affiliation. lol
…ahhh 2 much time on my hands I swear.

  44. 44

Re: Jenny2 – My point exactly.

  45. 45

    Re: Mrs. Palin-Carmody
There's not. That's the point. Feminism is independent of party affiliations. There are plenty of Communist, Green Party, Independent, Libertarian, etc., Feminists. A political viewpoint doesn't disqualify one from being a Feminist unless one's view anti-equality for men and women.

  46. 46

    Re: _Alice_
/agree 100%. I was a registered Libertarian and active in the party at one point (early Clinton era) but was frustrated the party couldn't make a real difference. When America has a viable multi-party system then we will have REAL choice and REAL change. :)

  47. 47

She's considered a POST feminist. She just rejects that label. Feminists who have made a positive impact on society, such as Gloria Steinem, Betty Friedan, Katha Pollit all consider her a fraud. She's damaging figure to the movement. She's a neocon in disguise. You can't trust someone who is friends with Rush Limbaugh!

  48. 48

Re: abercorey – bring it baby! xoxo

  49. 49

Perez, you read Drudge don't you?

  50. 50

Anyone who calls Sarah Palin a feminist is a moron. She's going to work to set women back 100 years.

  51. 51

No true feminist would advocate rape victims being forced to carry the product of the rape as Palin does.
    .
Nor would a true feminist try to deny women the right to reproductive freedom, as Palin does.
    .
Having a vagina does ot automatically make you a feminist.
    .
Paglia used up her 15 minutes of fame and she's trying to get in the public eye again by adopting a stance that she knows will get her attention.

  52. 52

perez! camille paglia is no more a feminist than ann coulter. i'm very concerned that, by calling herself one just so she can put her spin on current events like these and MUCK UP THE TRUTH, some of your readers may get the wrong impression.

not that they're dumb or anything, though.

  53. coco says – reply to this

    53

Camille Paglia is crazy. Honestly she has contradicted herself way to many times. I can't count her as a Feminist Hero. I think Gloria Steinmen makes more sense and sticks to her word. I honestly can't believe how blind Hillary Supporters are with rage that Obama didn't pick her as his running mate. ( I being a Hillary Supporter too).

  54. 54

This is another great article by Camille. I love reading all of her pieces. She has the cajones to not tow the accepted femist agenda. She speaks her mind and believes in individuality not group think. She always gives credit where credit is due. It's no surprise that other top feminists hate her. If you are a traditional feminist, read at your own risk. She says a few things you won't like.

  55. 55

    Re: CamBell
Maybe you can't trust someone who is friends with Limbaugh, but I can't trust someone who is friends with Bill Ayers. hehe.

  56. 56

Palin is anti-feminist! She is against a women's right to choose!!!!!!!!!!!

  57. 57

    Re: CamBell
Also, since we live in what amounts to a post-feminist society, it is those self-same radical feminists you mention, who refuse to change and modernize, that hurt the cause of Feminism, and who, as a byproduct of their unevolved viewpoints, are hurting the Democratic party as we speak.

  58. 58

    Re: Mrs. Palin-Carmody
For your information I wanted him to elect Palin, months ago. In fact when he did it, my friends all called me congratulating me.- I did my homework and I knew she was the best for the Republican ticket. What make you think McCain din't do the same thing?

If you think she is a "gimmick" to McCain, what do you think Biden is to Obama? The same gay who claim he was CHANGE and elected as his running mate an old, insipid Washington insider?

A last question, why all obama's supporters are so afraid of Palin? If she was so irrelevant, why paying her so much atention? …You know why? Because she matters….She is genuine, different for any other politian…And she will bring Obama down.

Yo liberals must deal with the fact.

  59. 59

    Re: SWEETAZHONAAY
Correct….That is the reason I will cahnge my registration card from Democrat to Independent.

  60. coco says – reply to this

    60

Camille also Called Madonna the greatest achievement in Feminism of all time. Then until recently took it back because she's conformed and has become a "wife". WTF? I don't get it. The only thing I see if Sarah wanting to become a Vice President at any costs. Even if it's not with any experience. I'm Pro Choice ( Even though I would never have an abortion) but believe everyone should have the right to decide whether they want to have a child or not. I'm also a huge believer in separation between Church and State. If want your child to become more i n tune with Religion then Pay for them to go to private school. They have so many for all kinds of religions. Public School should not have to enforce these rules. Another thing that upsets me is that Sarah P put a ban on skateboarding. This means that a simple activity that is a dam good workout a simple freedom was taken away. I know it sounds stupid but just think about it.

  61. 61

And this bitch says how can a democrat be pro-choice and against the death penalty, I GUESS THE SAME WAY SARAH THE GRAND CANYON CUNT CAN BE PRO_LIFE BUT ALSO, PRO-WAR, PRO-Death penalty, PRO-Hunting and PRO-gun. Enuff said!

  62. 62

    Re: Smirks
Wrong. You can't be a communist and be a femminist because communism is basically a men totalitarian regime and women are use for small task, but never for an icon figure. In communsim the Government is your master, and it will tell you where to work, how to dress, what to study and what to eat. "Feminism" is the right of women to think and to be free…There is no freedom under communism. A question, you still don't know that? Are you from earth?

  63. 63

Republicans have been using smears for years and McCain continues to do so. But i think anything Barack obama say or does will be dissected thoroughly which is extremely unfair. I don't think this man can fart without being judged. Anybody remember that cover of the New Yorker when they painted him as Osama bin laden. It was supposed to be a joke showing how ignorant some people are and how the right is trying to portray him to rednecks but still it was awful. And you guys are whining cuz he used an old saying about a pig. UR the fucking hypocrits I hope you control freak republicans all die!

  64. 64

Camille Paglia writes on page 4 of the article…
"Hence I have always frankly admitted that abortion is murder, the extermination of the powerless by the powerful. Liberals for the most part have shrunk from facing the ethical consequences of their embrace of abortion, which results in the annihilation of concrete individuals and not just clumps of insensate tissue."
I am glad at least ONE liberal pro-abortionist admits that it is committing murder—although even with her acceptance of that fact–she still believes in the woman's right to commit said murder…

  65. 65

Camille is right. Not RIGHT wing, but right. She is, in fact, a lefty. She doesn't speak for me. She speaks for herself. I don't agree with her much, but on this one issue she has nailed it. As for "right to choose"- that is a different issue than not liking abortion. I wouldn't work in an abortion clinic because i personally don't feel that abortion should be birth control, but neither do I feel a presidential candidate's feelings about it would influence my vote. As for stem cells, it is unnecessary 100% to use embryos for their stem cells because stem cells are throughout even your own body and can be culled for use, so I disagree with McCain who DOES support that. But I'll vote for HIM anyway. Obama has lied about his family- he was raised by a RICH grandmother and grandfather- his grandmother was VP of the biggest bank in Hawaii!!!! He went to an elite prep school. Elite college. Boo hoo.

  66. 66

"You can put lipstick on a pig -
    it's still a pig."
    .
"You can wrap a piece of old fish
    in a piece of paper,
    it's still gonna stink!"
    .
    Exact quotes from BARACK OBAMA

  67. 67

    Re: Yadayada
This is what I don't understand. How is the ability to have an abortion the hinging right for women, the one that must be believed in for one to be a feminist? Women do have a choice. Birth control is available to every woman that wants it. A woman doesn't have to bring her husband/man into the doctor's office with her and receive his permission to get an IUD, tubal ligation, Rx for the pill, etc.

Outside of instances of rape, women have complete control over their bodies - there are no longer arranged marriages, men are no longer allowed to behead or divorce you if you can't produce a son for them, you're not required to become a baby machine the minute you're wed, women aren't walking down the street with scarlet A's on their chests anymore…. so why is being pro-choice required for feminism? I'm pretty sure that the foundation of women's rights is based on being able to choose to get pregnant in the first place. It is not sexist or anti-woman to be pro-life. It would be sexist if there were laws denying women the right to obtain and use birth control - to prevent the pregnancy in the first place. Being Pro-Choice or Pro-Life has absolutely nothing to do with Feminism.

  68. 68

If women want to be respected as being intelligent and in control, they need to diligently use the birth control methods that are freely available to them. Abortions should be rare; few and far between - because of rape, defective birth control — they should not be the lazy person's birth control. I know many women who have had multiple abortions. At what point does it go from ooops to you're freaking lazy, protect yourself beforehand?

  69. 69

Not to mention, if you truly think about it on scales of equality. Abortion is one of the most sexist things out there. A woman can decide not to fool with her end of the birth control and then get an abortion later - or she can decide not to. A man is not allowed to force a woman to have an abortion, nor is he allowed to prevent her from having one - nor is he allowed to say, well that's great that you don't want the abortion but I want to abort my responsibilites and I'm going to sign this paper that says I don't have to pay child support or do anything for this kid that you're choosing to keep.

  70. 70

If we wanted to be completely unsexist and equal, men would be allowed to choose to abort their responsibilities to a child, freely and without the permission of the mother, the same way a woman can choose to have an abortion without having to get the father's ok. If women get an "oops I made a mistake, Get Out of Jail free card" so should men. Men should be served a legal notice advising them that they've impregnated a woman, they should then have the same amount of time that a woman has to choose an abortion, to decide if they want to accept responsibility or sign a release of rights - and get completely off the hook.

Everyone always says that deadbeat dad's or loser guys made their choice when they didn't wear a condom but nobody ever tells a woman fighting for the right to have an abortion "oh, too bad - you made your choice when you didn't take the morning after pill or use the patch or whatever…."

  71. 71

I am loving this libtard feminist more and more…she is easily supporting conservative pro-life positions with her article…
    She writes:
"The gigantic, instantaneous coast-to-coast rage directed at Sarah Palin when she was identified as pro-life was, I submit, a psychological response by loyal liberals who on some level do not want to open themselves to deep questioning about abortion and its HUMAN consequences"
"I have never understood the standard Democratic combo of support for abortion and yet opposition to the death penalty. Surely it is the guilty rather than the innocent who deserve execution?"
THIS PRO-ABORTION LIBERAL ACTUALLY SCORES A GOAL FOR PRO-LIFER'S—keep talking MS. Paglia you are making my day.

  72. 72

palin bashing is costing obama the election. anybody noticing?

  73. Noxx says – reply to this

    73

Calling Paglia a feminist is like calling Lieberman a democrat. Hasn't she died yet? She writes an article once every 10 years, yet we're supposed to consider her some kind of authority? No.

  74. 74

Re: lraien – You wrote "If we wanted to be completely unsexist and equal, men would be allowed to choose to abort their responsibilities to a child, freely and without the permission of the mother"… your attempt at logic fails, poor fool. What you wrote is equivalent to a mother bailing on a child who is already born.
    .
There is no equivalent to men carrying an embryo/fetus/potential child in his own body for nine months — (except in the rare bizarre instances with transgender female->male getting pregnant.)
    .
Your rant really doesn't make any sense.

  75. 75

    Re: COCACOLA
Yes, you are right. In a Communist totalarian regime that is absolutely correct. I was referring to certain leftist American women who flirt with Communism yet still can be considered Feminists under the Feminist doctrine.

  76. 76

Re: Smirks – Actually, I'd rather be friends with the present day Bill Ayers than Limbaugh. Limbaugh's ignorance and hypocrisy is unbearable and makes me think that it has to be a ruse. No one can be that stupid. Ayers is a former radical, who met Obama two decades after he was involved with the Weather Underground. His actions during the 60s and 70s were horrible, but he's not the same idiot kid who let his emotions get the best of him.

Most people view Camille Paglia as a whackjob anyway. One minute she loves Obama, the next it's Palin. Plus, I still can't get over her stance on global warming and homosexuality.

Re: Smirks – I do have to agree with you about the multi-party system. I'm a registered democrat, but find a two part system too stifling.

  77. 77

    Circe's sister:

I respectfully and completely disagree. I am a woman and I have children but I fail to understand how nine months, weight gain, stretch marks, post partum depression - any of that trumps the lifetime commitment required to be a father. Some parts of pregnancy suck, some parts are fun but it is only nine months. You can think I'm on a crazy rant but I still don't think carrying a baby for nine months gives you the trump card - the pregnancy is by far the easiest aspect of being a parent.

  78. 78

    Re: CamBell
Thoughtfully said. I actually wouldn't rather be friends with either :)

  79. 79

This line of thought goes right over your head.

  80. 80

Re: SquirrelLives – Squirrel, I've read enough of your posts to know that the squirral avi is quite appropriate — you are a nut.
    .
The righties ad hominem attacks and attempts to turn their religious beliefs into logic and cogent reasoning are comedy, and absolutely nothing new. Religious fanatics have been saying essentially the same things for centuries…

    81

Cocacola asked: A last question, why all obama's supporters are so afraid of Palin? Let me answer - because McCain is gonna die soon enough and Palin is batshit insane. I'll allow (for the sake of argument) that her pro-choice stance doesn't necessarily eliminate her from the label of feminist. But she is batshit insane, feminist or not.

Also, no one believes you were ever a democrat.

  82. 82

    RE: Circes"s sister - Post 81

Thanks for the compliment. That means more to me than you know.

  83. 83

Did you search out what Gloria Steinham had to say about Palin? Try posting that in an effort to be fair. At least Gloria Steinham is right.

  84. 84

That is the MOST educated article I've read in a LONG time. I can certainly appreciate everything she has to say because she is TRULY open minded, unlike the democratic party. I, myself just go with the best candidate and I believe in this case it will surely be the McCain/Palin ticket. It is ABSURD the lies YOU DEMOCRATS…especially YOU MR>PEREZ are spreading about Gov. Palin. Why don't you check a little further in depth to Sen. Obamas terrorist ties. That would ONLY BE FAIR. Thank you for a place to voice my opinion.

  85. 85

Re: angelatini – Glad you brought that up. It was an op ed piece in the LA Times. Thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

  86. 86

Re: Maramia – When will people realize, this country is NEVER going back to pre-abortion times. The ruling of Roe v. Wade is HERE TO STAY. But how is it that our politicians can seriously be AGAINST the death pentalty and be okay with abortion??? That's quite the double standard. The problem with abortion, is not having an abortion in a dier situation or where you simply aren't ready…it's the people who abuse it, the ones who have MULTIPLES w/in a years time. There should be some point where you FINALLY have to take responsibility for your actions! That's what's wrong with America the great right now!!!!!!

Re: Renee26 – WOW, YOU REALLY WISH DEATH UPON SOMEONE BECAUSE THEY DON'T SHARE YOUR VIEWS? THAT'S CRAZY TO ME.

  92. 92

wow its surprising that such an "iconic women's rights activist" fell for this petty desperate ploy. this exactly what the republicans wanted, and it is disgraceful.

I should have known this being Paglia it would be four pages long. And I read to the top of the second page and got bored. She's a fraud, the only thing I can say to her credit is that she's an independent whore, like a hooker that doesn't work for a pimp, when compared with the bought and sold versions like Coulter, Malkin, Ingraham, and the like. I don't know why they all just don't get together and yell "I hate my mother" really loudly from the tops of mountains, get drunk, and have an orgy. They'd feel alot better afterward and the world would be a better place. It's sad that Paglia has never been exposed to the kind of women Palin is. They are a-plenty in the flyover states, but the thing is we have many that are brave enough to be *actual* feminists, not stilletto-booted thugs goose-stepping to the tune of the faux-religious status quo. Palin is a typical authoritarian female, with the requisite self-hatred and seething resentment at mommy that accompany it. It's so formulaic it's freaking boring, which Paglia would know if she got her head out of the books, or wherever it's stuck.

I read Camille Paglia's article earlier today and just loved it. I've been a fan of Ms. Paglia's for a long time. What I found most refreshing in the article was that Paglia was able to fairly and intelligently discuss the topic….even if though she doesn't agree with Palin. This is actually the way conversation and debates should take place.

  95. 95

if Sara P. is a feminist, than I am confused by the meaning of the word

  96. 96

I feel I'm pretty well informed and I have never heard of her. More Palin posts by Perez trying to get more hits! But that's OK Perez, I support you and want you to succeed!

Who cares what this ugly whore thinks of Palin, this whore always pretends shes liberal but finds some reason to attack them, she needs to get a feminist disease,I mean this bitch has never had kids.never acted human and she lectures about whats real america, come one people ,Palin is one of the most disgusting women in history but Camile paglia a real has -been is much more disgusting.
