Following his suicide attempt last Sunday, Owen Wilson was discharged from the hospital this past weekend.
"Owen is in bad mental shape but said he is thankful to be alive," a source close to the actor tells People. "He knows he came close to ending his life, and he is happy that he was saved from himself. He is basically at home with people watching him 24/7."

Keep up the positive energy Perez. I saw some headlines talking about Owen's demons and his drug riddled past. I am glad to see you are not going down that path. This is the one time when the media needs to stay the fuck out of the star's personal life and just offer support from fans.

What makes me sad is people who live paycheck to paycheck but work very hard. They just did not come from money or did not have any luck making a quick 10 million on a movie. You would think ordinary people would do what Owen did but it's always the ones with a ton of money and fame. What could be so wrong if you have your health and you can pay your bills?? #58–Jessica… Um, no they wouldnt. They probably had him on a 5150 (three day) hold. After that, if he's stable enough to be sent home, he will be. They don not put too many people involuntarily in mental hospitals these days because of budget concerns and insurance. If they felt he was stable enough and had a strong support system staying with him, whether is was rich or famous, he'd be released if he was medically stable.

I am NOT rich or famous, but I do have bouts of depression, and a lot of it is brought on by living paycheck to paycheck. I have never contemplated offing myself as a way to solve my problems. Owen may be depressed, mentally ill, whatever, but I seriously doubt that the root of his problems lie in not having enough money. Also, because Owen does have the means to do so, he could get professional help, whereas some of us are not so fortunate.
While I myself cannot understand what caused Owen to try to take his life, and quite frankly I refuse to speculate about it because it's a waste of time because only Owen knows. But for those who are saying being rich or famous does not keep people from being depressed. From the other side, I think we know that, but I also think if Owen had to live the life I and others like myself lead, he would probably be dead by now. Today I was barely a block from my home when a woman asked if I could spare a dollar so she could get something to eat. She started crying, she was embarassed. I gave her three even though I could hardly spare them myself. I may have been scammed, but I don't care, at least I won't feel bad about not helping her if she were legitimately hungry. I wonder sometimes how these people keep going when they have so little to look forward to. I guess being poor and w/o the means to pay for help makes a person stronger, I guess. But frankly, it would be nice if I didn't have to find that out…or live it each day. So go easy on 28, myself, and others who just don't get it…we have assimulated to our environments…not necessarily a good thing perhaps?

When you surround yourself with your children and loved ones you almost can not be selfish. Owen, although I do not know him, does not have the family we have (children especially).
