The shocking story of Mackenzie Phillips’ incestuous relationship with her father has had many people coming forward in either defense or anger towards the actress.
One such person in dismay over her allegations is her former stepmother, Genevieve Waite. She released a statement directly to the Oprah Winfrey Show after the show aired, denouncing Phillips’ story:
“I am stunned by Mackenzie’s terrible allegations about her father. I would often complain about her overly familiar attitudes towards him, and he said it was just her way. John was a good man. … He was incapable, no matter how drunk or drugged he was, to have sexual relations with his own child.”
Since John Phillips isn’t alive to defend himself, there is no real way of knowing if Mackenzie is telling the truth. But what a terrible thing to live with if it is true and how hard it must be to share.
