Christian Slater's relationship with his dad is sadder than we even knew!
As you may know, the Mr. Robot star is currently being sued by his father Thomas Knight Slater for $20 million as he claims that his son ruined his career by noting in an interview that he suffered from "manic-depressive schizophrenia."
However, the Golden Globe winner just filed to have the defamation lawsuit thrown out and highlighted that it was his mother who first told him about his father's mental health issues. Reportedly, Christian's mom informed him that Thomas was taken to
On Wednesday, it was revealed that TV Land is planning to reboot the '80s cult classic Heathers… but as a comedy anthology. Umm, YAS!
In fact, it's said that the "outcasts" are the
We knew there had to be more to the story.
Yesterday we told you that Christian Slater was being sued for $20 million by his father Michael Hawkins — who claimed the Mr. Robot star "ruined" his career by saying in an interview last year that Hawkins was "suffering from manic-depressive schizophrenia."
Slater's father (real name Thomas Knight Slater) appeared on the soap opera Ryan's Hope in the '70s and his last credited project on IMDB was the 1988 action film Midnight Run.
A source close to the family says Hawkins has a history of personal struggle:
"His father has had his troubles. Christian has done what he can for him financially by supporting him for many years, but eventually had to distance himself because of his erratic behavior."
"It's been a long and difficult situation. The lawsuit is baseless."
Ugh. This is so sad.
We hope this all gets sorted out soon…

As we reported, Christian Slater revealed to Interview mag last summer that his father Thomas Knight Slater (stage name Michael Hawkins) greatly suffers from manic-depressive schizophrenia, a condition which affected their relationship and his father's career as an actor. However, the 46-year-old said that the two had been "able to begin to build a better bridge" after Hawkins wanted to reconnect.
Well now things seem to have taken a turn as poppa Slater is suing his famous son for at least $20 million.
According to docs obtained by People, Hawkins claims Slater and his ex-wife Mary Jo Slater "ruined" his acting career by labeling him as mentally ill.
The accusations include slander, libel, defamation of character, intentional interference with prospective economic advantage, invasion of privacy, as well as intentional infliction of emotional distress. Hawkins demands a jury trial.
Dang, anything else?!
The 80-year-old claims that he doesn't have a mental illness and that his son doesn't have "a medical credential or the ability to diagnose manic-depressive schizophrenia."
The documents add:
Hey there, sexy!
We haven't seen much sheerness at the Critics' Choice Awards tonight in LA, but Mr. Robot's Portia Doubleday brought it with a vengeance!
The actress stunned in a fully embroidered gown that showed off her black undies and a Farbod Barsum clutch, while her costar Carly Chaikin went bohemian in a ruffled peach gown with plunging neckline and a slightly messy braid. She also carried a clutch — by Lee Savage – and Brian Atwood pumps.
Then there was hottie Rami Malek! He was a gorgeous hunk in his traditional black suit.
Hurray for this flawless cast!
P.S. Check out their castmate Christian Slater in the gallery (above) wearing a John Varvatos suit! He also won Best Supporting Actor In A Drama Series.
A true professional all the way!
The actor beat out a very talented group of other actors in the category, winning the supporting actor nod over Alan Cumming in The Good Wife, Damien Lewis in Wolf Hall, Ben Mendelsohn in Bloodline, and Tobias Menzies in Outlander!
What can we even say — more than 30 years in the biz, and Christian just keeps doin' his thing!
Ch-ch-check out how professional and smooth he is accepting the award (above)!
