Universal Considering Pulling Out Of The Dark Tower

universal-considers-pulling-out-of-the-dark-tower.jpg

Uh-oh.

Stephen King's The Dark Tower hasn't even gone into production and it's already having some setbacks.

The studio behind the movie, Universal, is said to be having second thoughts on their plan on go forward on the film.

The movie was set to expand into a trilogy and two TV series, but it seems that the failure of some recent Universal films, such as Land of the Lost, Robin Hood, The Wolfman, and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, have made the studio think twice before heading into such an epic and costly project.

If Universal does decide to pull out of the trilogy, then director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer will have to shop the movie around, which would definitely delay its May 17, 2013 release.

Maybe this will be a blessing in disguise? Universal may not be equipped to adapt the film in a way that will not disappoint fans.

Even though the movie will be huge and extremely costly to make, it seems that it will need to find a studio that will know how to market the film to the general public. We're not sure if Universal was the right choice.

Hmm, we don't know…

What do U think? Should Universal pass??

Zorro Shall Return…And He Wants Revenge!

zorro getting reboot treatment

Looks like this adventurous pulp hero is getting the Kill Bill treatment…

As is the case with absolutely EVERY franchise these days, Zorro is getting a reboot, and the filmmakers are planning some major changes for the character.

According to reports, the title character in the upcoming Zorro Reborn "will be less a caped crusader for justice than a one-man vigilante force bent on revenge, in a western story that has echoes of both Sergio Leone and No Country for Old Men.”

The script was written by Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, the same folks behind the upcoming Dracula flick Harker, and the film's being directed by Rpin Suwannath, a pre-visualization specialist who worked on the Matrix sequels.

Not sure how we feel about this one, but it may be too early to decide.

Our first question would be - who's gonna play Zorro?

We'd say Javier Bardem, but he's got a lot on his plate right now. Hmm….

Are U excited for a Zorro reboot? Who do U think should play him?

Done Deal! Javier Bardem Will Star In The Dark Tower!

javier-bardem-dark-tower-role.jpg

Welcome to the franchise biz, Bardem!

In what will surely be considered one of the biggest deals this year, Javier Bardem has officially signed on to star in the movie and TV adaptations of Stephen King's Dark Tower. As Ron Howard's first choice for the role, this is a enormous deal for everyone involved and with Javier in place, production on the first movie should begin this September.

Thing is, so far, Javier's contract only has him confirmed for the first movie (three are planned) and the mini-series. We suppose that should this project not blow up like everyone assumes it will, after the first two installments, the studio will cut it's losses and move on.

We doubt that will happen, though. The series has a pretty deep and devoted fan base. No doubt Javier will be locked in for the other two movies shortly after the first reigns supreme at the box-office.

Congrats, Javier!

Javier Bardem Closing Deal For The Dark Tower

javier bardem closin dark tower deal

Waaaay back in May, we learned that a film based on Stephen King's Dark Tower series was in the works!

Now, almost a year later, wheels are moving, and No Country For Old Men/Biutiful star Javier Bardem is closing a deal to star in the film as gunslinger Roland Deschain.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the character/series, Deschain is "humanity’s last hope to save civilization," and he encounters peril on his way to Mount Doom The Dark Tower!

Fans of Bardem will be excited to hear that the deal he's working on will not only attach him to a trilogy of films, BUT will also attach him to a "TV component" and lots and lots of $$$.

As we've said before, we're not TOO familiar with the Dark Tower series, but we know that it has a fan-base that's totally obsessed! We're excited for them.

Do U think Javier Bardem is right for the lead character in The Dark Tower series?

Eva Longoria Celebrates Her 36th Birthday With Style!

Eva Longoria Turned 36

Eva Longoria recently turned 36th, and celebrated in every way she could!

Especially with her new love, Eduardo Cruz! So sweet!

This past weekend the lovers threw a birthday bash that was in 1920's Flapper style, and everyone came decked out in their best costume, including Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Kim Kardashian, Heidi Klum and Kanye!

Sounds like so much fun!

The happy couple spent the evening getting close:

"Eva and Eduardo were so cute. They were kissing and making out all night. He's so genuine. It was such a low-key intimate party. Eva had an amazing night with her closest friends. It was maybe 40 people."

Adorbs!

But that wasn't it! They also went and spent the day at Disneyland, and then dined at Buca di Beppo!

AND THAT'S NOT IT!

Eva hopped on Facebook and dropped this:

"Thank you everyone for the wonderful bday wishes! I'm celebrated with my family at the happiest place on earth! Disneyland!"

"But," she added, "the real celebration will be in Vegas this weekend at Eve and Beso at City Center Friday Night! See you there!"

Wow! You know how to celebrate a 36th birthday, girl!!

Happy birthday, Eva! Have fun in Vegas, and we're so happy you found someone!

Oscar Producer Says Avoiding Javier/Josh Kiss Was An Honest Mistake!

oscar-producer-says-missing-javier-bardem-josh-brolin-kiss-was-an-honest-mistake

Damage control or honest mistake?

We're not sure we can tell!

After ABC's telecast of Sunday's Academy Awards cut away from presenters Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin sharing an impromptu on-stage kiss and dance number, the network has received criticism once again claiming that they did this deliberately to avoid airing a same-sex lip lock!

However, Award producer Bruce Cohen has released the following statement:

“It [the dance and the kiss] was unscripted, and the plan in the truck was always to cut to Penelope in the audience applauding Josh’s and Javier’s introduction, so that is what happened, just as they were starting to dance. Josh and Javier’s moment (I saw them start to dance, but, to be honest, I have no idea if they kissed — that’s the first I’ve heard of that) would have made a great TV moment, but since no one knew it was coming, we cut to the gorgeous Mz. Cruz as planned. By the time, we cut back from her close-up, Josh and Javier were walking to the podium.”

Hmm! We understand that is must be incredibly difficult as a producer to keep an eye on EVERYTHING that's happening, while simultaneously managing what cameras are where, but that's sort of a BIG moment to miss!

Feels a little like an excuse to us, but honestly, who knows?

Just make sure it doesn't happen again, guys!

What do U think was in play here?? Homophobia or an honest mistake??

ABC Cut Josh Brolin And Javier Bardem Kissing At The Oscars!

abc-cuts-josh-brolin-javier-bardem-kiss-from-the-oscars

Again?! Seriously?!

Come on, guys!

Although the Academy Awards were an absolute snoozefest this year, it apparently didn't deter ABC from cutting one of the only interesting moments from the live telecast — Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem's 'gay kiss!'

When the two men walked out onto the stage at the ceremony, viewers at home only saw them engage in a brief dance before the camera jumped to an extended, awkward shot of Penelope Cruz - and that's because in actuality, the two men - who are actually close friends in real life - shared a little comedic mouth action!

ABC has refused to comment on the issue, and we think that it's frankly pretty shitty! For a network that airs a show like Brothers & Sisters, we have no idea why they continue to censor this sort of thing (anyone remember the Glambert debacle?)

Such an unbelievable shame, especially after the events of this past year. Get it together, guys.

EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL.
