Archive for the 'Kate Winslet' Category

Take a lesson from the Brit's who had to shell out $40,000 to the Oscar-winning actress for labeling her "The World's Most Irritating Actress". (By the way, we couldn't agree less!)
Kate Winslet won her suit against the Daily Mail, which she sued back in April for their report written in January labeling her as "vain" and accused her of lying about how she keeps in shape.
She and her lawyers settled for $40,000 in damages and accepted it as an apology for their slander. Kate released a statement following the hearing, saying:
"I am delighted that the Mail have apologised for making false allegations about me. I was particularly upset to be accused of lying about my exercise regime and felt that I had a responsibility to request an apology in order to demonstrate my commitment to the views that I have always expressed about body issues, including diet and exercise. I strongly believe that women should be encouraged to accept themselves as they are, so to suggest that I was lying was an unacceptable accusation of hypocrisy."
Bravo!
And, honestly, she has no worries of being labeled that here in the States. Off the top of our heads, we can think of at least two dozen other actresses that we would call irritating over her!
Isn't that right, Lindsay Lohan? Mischa Barton? Sienna Miller? …

Hooks up for a movie that is!
Oprah Winfrey is set to collaborate with director Sam Mendes and Focus Features on a film adaptation of the Joseph O'Neill novel Netherland.
The story takes place in "New York City, where a lonely Dutch expatriate becomes drawn to the sport of cricket and forms an unlikely bond to immigrant culture."
Wonder if there's a place to stick Kate Winslet into this?
Either way, with Oprah attached to the project, we think it'll do fairly well.

Kate Winslet will be working with Killer Films to develop a new miniseries for HBO. The five-hour-long adaptation of James M. Cain’s novel, Mildred Pierce, will star the Oscar winner as Mildred, a single mother during the Great Depression.
Yeah, this has the makings of an Emmy win written all over it!
Start writing the speech, Kate!

We think this is…interesting.
Over a decade ago, Titanic became one of the biggest award-winning, cash cow flicks of all time. Well, of course, there is always a little more buck to squeeze out of the public's pockets and director James Cameron has just thought up of a way to do so.
While at Comic-Con discussing his newest flick, Avatar, he revealed plans to "dimensionalize" the 1997 blockbuster, meaning the Titanic will come alive again - in 3D!
We think a 3 hour movie in 3D would give us a headache, but we can see how some people could get really excited for this - The boat right in your face, the present day underwater expedition, the iceberg- all of this will look super cool. But we can't help but think of the pervs who will shell out the funds just to see Kate Winselt's rack protrude off of the screen.
What? You think they are gonna go through all the trouble of converting the thing to 3D and not do that? Please!
Would U go see Titanic in 3D?

“Depends on the character. Let me tell you, The Reader was not glamorous for me in terms of body-hair maintenance. I had to grow it in, because you can’t have a landing strip in 1950, you know? And then because of years of waxing, as all of us girls know, it doesn’t come back quite the way it used to. They even made me a merkin because they were so concerned that I might not be able to grow enough. I said, 'Guys, I am going to have to draw the line at a pubic wig. But you can shoot my snatch up close and personal.'"
…and for those that saw the movie, they did!

If there is a small part of you that still yearns for Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet to be together for ever, then Flare has a tidbit that should make you happy.
Though the Oscar winner is happily married to her director husband Sam Mendes, she still displays her love for Leo in a very symbolic way. Kate wears both her wedding ring and a small, gold, engraved ring that was a gift from her beloved friend.
She tells the magazine: "Yes, [Leo’s ring] is engraved on the inside, but I’m not going to tell you what it says."
We hope it's nothing too cheesy like "Our Hearts Will Go On…"

When James Cameron's Titanic came out, the film grossed over $1 billion dollars and made stars Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet household names. Now, over a decade later, the cast and the famed director are giving back to the last remaining link to the 1912 tragedy: 98 year old survivor Millvina Dean.
At the time the famous boat sank, Dean was only nine weeks old, and now she is struggling to keep herself healthy and financially afloat. Irish author and photographer Don Mullan publicly challenged the Hollywood stars to help the woman, who desperately needed money for her care. Without hesitation, Cameron, DiCaprio, and Winslet contributed to a $30,000 fund which will ensure Millvina is financially secure for the rest of her days.
Good karma right there.
Way to go!

Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet is suing UK paper The Daily Mail for $225k in damages for stating their opinion.
Oh, come on!
Daily Mail writer Liz Jones penned an article boasting the headline, Should Kate Winslet Win an Oscar for the World's Most Irritating Actress?, in reaction to a quote from Winslet's interview with Elle magazine.
Kate told Elle, "I don't go to the gym because I don't have time, but I do Pilates workout DVDs for 20 minutes or more every day at home."
Jones took a cheap shot at Winslet in the article, writing:
"[Kate Winslet] has become, in my opinion, as drippy and as impossibly vain as the rest of them. She caught a nasty dose of Hollywooditis. It happens to the best of them, of course it does. It is the duplicitousness that enrages me and most other women I have spoken to."
Tactless but not reputation-ruining!
A pouty-faced Winslet complained that the story "injured her personal and professional reputation" and is "distressed and embarrassed" by Jones' nasty words.
The quotes from the Daily Mail are hardly defamation!
Take a chill pill, biyatch!
