Many people have tried to deal with their grief by deflecting blame from the former boy band member, and that has meant blaming his fiancée, Perrie Edwards.
Since Zayn's departure from 1D, the Little Mix member has been compared to Yoko Ono, who was credited with breaking up The Beatles.
But now, Perrie is speaking out about how the decision actually came about, telling OK!:
Little Mix fans, get ready!
Your girls are covering Fabulous magazine's upcoming June 28 issue, and channeling Mad Max: Fury Road for it!
So obviously the British girl group looks fierce, sporting braids, dreads, and smokey shadows!
If that isn't enough to get readers picking up the latest issue though, the headline teaser definitely will!
"Max Mix: Boyfriends, Babies And Why Zayn Really Left 1D. The Little Mix Girls Come Out Fighting." Cool.
Glad the focus is really on the girls. Sigh.
We hope there's more to their spread and interview than the front page leads on!

Little Mix is only missing a redheaded member to turn them into Spice Girls 2.0, HA!
The British girl group was spotted leaving the Sony offices in London on Thursday, and they all looked really cute!
Leigh-Anne Pinnock was sleek with a touch of whimsy in pinstriped palazzo pants and a very fuzzy halter top.
It's like a stylish throw rug!
Jade Thirwall and Perrie Edwards kept it comfortable in one-piece outfits — Jade wore a colorful romper while Zayn Malik's leading lady had a '70s vibe in a denim jumpsuit.
Finally, Jesy Nelson threw on a simple LBD, but let her colorful jacket, strappy heels, and floppy hat add plenty of personality to the frock.
Aren't they precious? They even stopped to take selfies with fans!

That's one sexy couple!
Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards were spotted leaving her father's home in Newcastle. The future husband and wife held hands as they headed towards their car.
The Little Mix member looked great, rocking a print crop top with a black blazer! Her dark pants and shades completed the look, giving her this cool, chic vibe.
Zayn, however, was clearly dressing for comfort, donning a grey hoodie and dark sweatpants, all while nonchalantly puffing on a cigarette.
This couple looks like they couldn't be bothered by the rumors swirling that Perrie is the Yoko Ono of One Direction — meaning she's the reason the 22-year-old left the group.
Reports say that her mother, Debs, is also shrugging off the comparisons. They quote her coming to her daughter's defense, saying:
"It was his decision and nothing to do with Perrie."
What do U think? Did Zayn leave the boy band for his lovely lady?
SOUND OFF in the comments!

Could you not?
That's the question on Perrie Edwards' mind every time someone asks her about her and Zayn Malik's wedding!
The Little Mix lead singer stopped by UK station Captial FM on Saturday to answer some silly questions, and she was actually pretty candid.
While most of the inquiries resulted in the 21-year-old giving a cutesy answer, when the X Factor winner had to pick a question she wished she'd stopped being asked, she knew exactly what it'd be — her wedding day!
We feel ya on the struggle, Perrie, but we only wanna know cause we love you guys so much!!
Ch-ch-check out Perrie's brutally honest answer (below)!!!
Who knew that the ladies of Little Mix were graduates of Hogwarts?!
Well, not actually. But the pop group does explore their sorcery in their new music video for Black Magic!
In the video, LM isn't getting noticed in their high school, until they stumble upon a mysterious book and learn the powers of — you guessed it — black magic!
With their magical powers, they buy new clothes and get great haircuts (couldn't they have done that without witchcraft?). They also humiliate the popular girl — but don't worry, they make up for it by having a classroom dance party!
The bewitching video (above) is also an homage to the 1996 movie The Craft, the cult classic about a group of witches in high school who abuse their magic powers. But that movie has a slightly different ending!
The girl-power anthem is so poptastically perfect it seems like it would have been coveted since it's conception — but that's not the case!
Girl group Little Mix wrote the tune for their latest album, but they scrapped it because they didn't think the song was good enough to make the final cut!
Group member Jade Thirlwall explained that even though they loved the song, they decided it wasn't the best fit for their album.
