We still can't believe we live in a world without Michael Jackson, but it's looking more and more like his penchant for drugs was deeper than we all thought. Just released was a frantic voicemail from Michael to his doctor where it appears that the singer is shopping for drugs.

This was just 7 weeks before his death!

What makes it scary is that it sounds like he can't even complete a short sentence on May 3, 2009 at around 11:06 a.m. He was begging Jason Pfeiffer, who worked for the singer’s Beverly Hills, Calif. dermatologist Dr. Klein, to call him back.

Pfieffer said this afterwards in an interview:

Dr. Conrad Murray's trial for the involuntary manslaughter of the King of Pop began on Tuesday morning.

According to sources, Michael Jackson's former doctor isn't only losing sleep over the threat of being jailed for 4 years if convicted, but he's losing weight!

Apparently, he's already lost between 10 and 15 pounds, as a source explained:

“With the trial beginning, Dr. Murray is having trouble eating and sleeping. Dr. Murray is deeply religious, and his faith is the one thing that seems to be sustaining him right now."

Defending yourself against manslaughter charges is one diet plan we DON'T suggest! Ha!

We'll be honest, when we heard that Michael Jackson drank intravenous drugs, we didn't quite know what it meant.

What it means is that Dr. Conrad Murray's defense team is going to show how crazy addicted he was to drugs to help him sleep. That includes drinking intravenous drugs.

"Conrad Murray's team can't understand how Propofol got into the stomach. It does not make sense unless Michael drank it. To them that will show the world how much of an addict he was. Michael was acting crazy in his last few hours, demanding drugs to help him sleep. He was always playing with the bottles, who know what he did."

Dr. Murray is confident he can convince a jury Michael could have self-administered his drugs. It paints a bad picture of him as his doctor for feeding his addiction but Dr. Murray still insists he didn't dish out enough to kill him."

Self administered or not, how is that not dishing out enough to kill him?

Either way, to us it paints a picture of a tortured man who couldn't sleep — and a doctor who went overboard.

Michael Jackson's doctor isn't the only one in hot water over prescription drugs.

The number of doctors in trouble is still relatively small, but growing at an alarming rate. According to a CDC report, the amount of fatal overdoses from prescription painkillers has more than TRIPLED between 1999 and 2006!

Reuters tallied around 37 reported criminal cases in the decade from 2001 to 2011, with most recent cases against doctors for over-prescribing painkillers and other controlled substances.

U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration information suggests a similar trend. For 2003, the agency reported 15 physician arrests that resulted in convictions. By 2008, the most recent year with comprehensive data, the number had grown to 43.

That's crazy!

So, we're wondering what kind of effect that has on doctors and how they practice medicine. Are the becoming too scared to properly prescribe to their patients? Are they losing trust in a patient's word on the amount of pain that they have versus being possibly addicted?

Is there a proper balance between professional judgement and the fear of accidentally giving too much??

It'll be interesting to see what happens to this trend.
