2008's MTV Video Music Awards delivered!

In the key 18-34 demographic, this year's show ratings were 15% higher than the 2007 broadcast and 41% higher than the 2006 edition.

The show was also the highest-rated telecast on all of cable in the 12-34 demo this year.

Dayum!

We guess casting the unknown Brit comic Russell Brand didn't bite the net in the ass!

MTV.com also saw a boost this year.

Its VMA-related pages delivered more than 10 million page views, a 110% increase over last year.

But, y'all know there's a certain someone MTV needs to tip its hat to for the massive ratings.

Britney. Spears.

You know you tuned in just to see her!

We got our hopes up, only to have them CRUSHED.

But, this is probably for the best.

PerezHilton.com just spoke to Britney Spears' manager, Larry Rudolph, and he tells us exclusively that the former and (hopeful) once-again Princess of Pop is NOT performing at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday.

She is 100% not performing, Larry assured us, but she will be attending and opening the show.

Rudolph has repeatedly stated recently that Spears was NOT performing, a statement echoed closely by the reps at MTV.

So, what to make of that footage that leaked on Friday that showed Britney rehearsing to a new song of her with some dancers???

"She was not rehearsing for the VMAs," Rudolph tells us. "It was just her going into the studio with some dancer friends and having fun. It's a regular occurrence now. I see that every day."

But we don't! And we got VERY excited.

Well, we think it's wise that Spears wait until she's 110% ready to perform and make a killer comeback.

But, Larry tells us, that day is not too far away!

Very very very very VERY exciting news!

On November 6th, the Queen of All Media will be in the city of culture, Liverpool, U.K., for the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards.

Not only will Perezzzzzz be presenting an award at the big show, but he will also be the "Digital Host" for this year's festivities.

What does that mean????

Well, Master P. is going to be bringing viewers worldwide all the juice as it happens - live!

This is a little bit sad and somewhat hypocritical but still pretty exciting.

If you recall, Kanye West was rather upset and insulted at last year's MTV Video Music Awards, seeing as his didn't win the number of awards he thought he deserved.

He was also annoyed that his performance was limited to only a small stage.

That's when he vowed he would never to return to another MTV VMA.

But, a celeb's word is only as good as the money they are probably throwing at him to perform.

And, surprisingly enough, Kanye will be performing at the 25th VMAs this Sunday.

In fact, he'll be closing the show with his performance!

So what do U think of Kanye returning to the VMAs?

Is he a sellout for not keeping his word or who cares?????

Last week, Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port were snapped filming an episode of The Hills at a Beverly Hills restaurant.

According to the paps, they were filming some pretty "emotional" scenes.

L.C. apparently pretended to cry as Whitney left the set.

We're assuming this is the episode where Whit tells the brat that she's leaving LA for her Diane Von Furstenberg gig in the NYC.

L.C.'s fakery is like a train wreck. You don't want to look but you can't help it!

How did she ever land her own show?????

Tara Conner, the disgraced 2006 Miss USA who Donald Trump supported after news broke of her alcohol and drug use, will be working on her very own reality show.

The MTV series, currently titled LaDette to Lady, will have Conner hosting and helping to transform girls from "problematic to prim and proper while exposing details of her own tough times."

Oh, how exciting.

Conner was first in a reality TV show back in 2007 called Pageant Place, created by Donald Trump, which followed her life living with other beauty pageant contest winners.

We still don't know one person who watched that show. We doubt anyone will watch the new show either!

As for Conner, it seems she's still not even good enough to be considered D-list.

Tara tried to attend last Saturday's "Declare Yourself" Red, White & Blue Summer Oasis Party in the Hollywood Hills.

However, she was denied entrance!

The party was filled to capacity and she wasn't allow in.

Cheryl Burke (from Dancing With the Stars) and some socialite wannabe were also denied entry.

Sucks for her.

Maybe Conner can let Burke make a cameo on her show?

An MTV insider reveals exclusively to PerezHilton.com that 8-time Olympic gold winner Michael Phelps will be part of this year's Video Music Awards!

They're not exactly sure how he'll be worked into the show yet, but one hypothesis is that he'll introduce one of his favorite rappers, Lil' Wayne.

We bet Lollipop is one of Phelps' anthems post-Olympics! Uh huh.
