First there was the planking trend…
But now, the latest viral meme craze to hit the internet has to do with Shamu (sort of)!
#Whaling has hit the video sharing site Vine with a splash, and it's continuing to make waves throughout the internet with people acting freer than Willy all over public places!
The majestic movement of arching your back and falling to imitate a whale breaching the surface of the ocean has captured the attention of many—including grandmas, babies, and more!
While we find these videos hysterical, one must properly learn to Whale safely in order to achieve maximum viral vid shares!
Allow us to provide you with a break down of the fishy and flawless movements:
One incredible California lawmaker is going to introduce the Orca Welfare and Safety Act and it could change things in a big way forever!
State Assemblymember Richard Bloom, D–Santa Monica, is trying to make it illegal to "hold in captivity, or use, a wild-caught or captive-bred orca for performance or entertainment purposes."
The ban wouldn't only make it illegal to hold them captive for entertainment, it would also ban artificial insemination of captive killer whales and block the import of more orcas or orca semen.
California would basically become a safe haven for killer whales.
What would happen if someone were to violate the ban?
They would face a fine of up to
Ever since the documentary Blackfish came out, all eyes have been on SeaWorld. And they're judging… hard.
Some of those judging eyes belong to the U.S. government!
The U.S. Department of Agriculture actually cited SeaWorld Orlando for violating the Animal Welfare Act!
SeaWorld can try and spin the press in their favor all they want, but the fact that they were using
Wow, what a beautiful whale… such a majestic creature.
Look at how the giant behemoth gently… whoa… look out, he's getting kinda close, OH DAMN!
He just straight up slapped that girl in the face!
That's a whale tail straight to the face! That's GOTTA hurt!
While on a whale watching trip in Baja, a group of people got really realllllly close to a huge whale. The whale was curious, coming up to them and doing cool tricks.
But they didn't toss him any treats… not a single one.
So, obviously pissed, the whale overreacted and things got violent!
Check out the video (below) to watch some lady get seriously slapped, whale style!
SeaWorld has finally responded to the reputation-shattering documentary Blackfish.
No one wants to see a fair and balanced doc, they want sensationalism! At least that's how SeaWorld feels. They feel abused.
So, they're finally pulling their heads out of the sand, and, they've gone on the media offensive!
They've bided their time and gotten their facts straight and provided links and sources to back up everything they say.
Though, we're honestly just left feeling like it's propaganda versus propaganda.
What's awful is
Kiyoshiro Yamamoto and Susumu Ueda are two sushi chefs who plead guilty to a pretty serious crime in the world of seafood: buying and selling illegal whale meat!
The chefs were previously employed by the now shut down Santa Monica restaurant The Hump.
The two chefs each plead guilty to three misdemeanor charges in exchange for
We previously mentioned that Russian hunters had captured two wild orcas and they were going to be put on display during the Sochi Winter Games.
We also mentioned how freakin' awful that is and how was can't believe people are still treating whales this way.
Hasn't anyone in Russia seen Blackfish!?!
Well, apparently, they have. Or they have a heart at least, because it's reported that the orcas will NOT be on display during the Olympics!!
Hooray! The whales can go free now… right?
WRONG. The orcas were shipped to Moscow and instead of being shuttled over to Sochi, they're going to just stay in Moscow.
Seeing as how Moscow isn't the ocean, we're still not too happy.
Also there's the fact that the aquarium is "still in the process of being built," according to a whale conservationist with some inside knowledge.
We're glad they're not going to the Games but we wish they'd just RELEASE THOSE MAJESTIC CREATURES!
