WSPA ambassador Leona Lewis is very displeased to hear the new report about the excessive hunting of seals in Namibia. According to reports, seal watching is worth 300 percent more than seal hunting and animal rights organizations are trying to have the country's government step in to bring an end to the killings for the benefit of the animals and the community.

When asked about the hunting, Leona released this statement, saying:

“No price would ever be high enough to justify the killing of these harmless animals. This country has so much natural beauty to offer tourists, why allow this brutal practice to tarnish its reputation forever?”

Agreed! It would be better for everyone, including the economy, if this beautiful creatures were just left alone!

Community Actresses Really Really Want A Dog

The ladies of the NBC comedy Community are just dying to adopt a dog!!

Gillian Jacobs who plays Britta and Yvette Nicole Brown who plays Shirley have been spending their breaks from work looking up dogs online.

According to Brown:

"Gillian's in Petfinder mode. We just look at dogs every day and go, 'Oh, he's so cute. That looks like a dog that you would have. I won't get one until I'm able to have a job where either I can bring the dog with me to work or be home more. I wouldn't want a dog waiting for me to come home. Gillian and I both know [having a dog is] an impossibility right now.'"

Since Yvette doesn't have time for a dog, she's doing all she can to get others to adopt. The star has lent her voice acting skills to Hub's new animated series Pound Puppies — show that encourages kids to adopt.

The actress says of the show: "I just think it's a beautiful thing."

And we do too!! Yvette is a HIGHlarious star with a heart of gold!

Michael Vick: I Miss My Dogs

Michael Vick misses his dogs

Aw, poor Michael Vick.

The ex-animal torturer and current Philadelphia Eagles quarterback is bitching about not being allowed to own a dog.

Vick told GQ Magazine:

“I miss dogs, man. I always had a family pet, always had a dog growing up. It was almost equivalent to the prison sentence, having something taken away from me for three years. I want a dog just for the sake of my kids, but also me. I miss my companions.”

We have little (actually less than little) sympathy the asshole person who personally hanged or drowned seven dogs.

Luckily for the dog community, Vick can't legally own a dog until his probation is up in late 2012.

What a shame.

Elephants Lend A Helping Trunk To Tornado Victims

Someone deserves a peanut!

Elephants from the Piccadilly Circus got in their community service hours in Joplin Missouri over the weekend weekend.

The city has be devastated by tornados and the circus discovered had nowhere to preform.

Instead of moving on to the next town the elephants decided (we assume it was the generous elephant's decision) to help helped residents clear some of the tornado debris.

What do you think about this animal aid? Is helpful to the people or cruel to the animals?

ASPCA Lends A Hand To AL Tornado Victims

Some good news for Alabama!

The Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS) in Alabama has purchased a new emergency transport rig for tornado relief efforts as a result of a $128,000 grant provided by the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).

The new emergency transport vehicle will greatly improve the organization’s ability to provide assistance to the affected areas of Alabama, especially parts of Tuscaloosa, which was ravaged in late April by the worst tornado outbreak in the nation’s history.

The rig will include space for animal transport cages, an on-board veterinary work space, and room for the storage of pet care supplies.

"The recent tornadoes in Alabama have created an immense need for the care of animals that have been displaced and abandoned,” said Jodi Lytle Buckman, senior director of community initiatives for the ASPCA.

“Requests for transfers and supplies have been steadily increasing since the outbreak of dangerous weather, and we are pleased to be able to offer aid to local organizations like the Greater Birmingham Humane Society.”

For more information on the Greater Birmingham Humane Society and how you can help with the disaster relief efforts, please visit www.gbhs.org.
