Wild Horses Tame Wild Men

At the Northern Nevada Correctional Center, inmates aren't the only wild beasts that need taming.
Prisoners have been given the task of taming wild horses that have been rounded up by the states Bureau of Land Management which is in charge of managing nearly 40,000 wild horses and burros that roam on 26 million acres.
This year's goal is to remove 12,000 wild mustangs from the range, and most of the animals will be put in BLM holding facilities, while about 80 will be trained by inmates at the prison.
Warden Jack Palmer says of the unique prison program:
"This is in my opinion one of the best programs the Department of Prisons has. This program … it teaches these guys work ethic. A lot of them come into prison, and they don't have a work ethic."
It's not just the prison staff who believe in the program either.
Thomas Smittle, an inmate who is doing time for embezzlement, says:
"This program has forced me to look at myself and I really had to grow up to able to be successful at it."
Country singer and Let 'em Run Foundation President Lacy J. Dalton is happy that the inmates are doing this task and hopes it continues. She uses a western expression to explain the effect a wild horse can have on a man, saying:
"Out here, you hear it all the time, a cowboy will say, 'The outside of a horse is good for the inside of a man.' "
We think this sounds like a fantastic program for the horses and the inmates.

Red Foxes Are Not Extinct!

Wildlife biologists have confirmed the sighting of two more Sierra Nevada red foxes in Stanislaus National Forest, revealing that the species is not extinct!!
The first sighting in two decades of these red foxes came in September in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest near Sonora Pass.
DNA of these foxes was collected from their poo, which then revealed enough diversity in the DNA that biologists think there is a fairly strong population.
This is such and exiting discovery! We love hearing this kind of news!!

Nevada Men Use Wild Horses For Target Practice

This is so terrible.
Two Nevada men are being sentenced to 6 months in jail for shooting wild horses.
The men who pleaded for leniency in this case, had been drinking and were looking for places to do some trapping when they came across the horses in the rangeland about 150 miles northwest of Reno.
The judge's response to their plea for probation was, "Drunken and boneheaded is not an excuse."
LOL! We like this judge!!
Assistant U.S. Attorney Sue Fahami had originally sought a year in prison for both men not only because what they did was incredibly cruel, but also due to their complete disregard for the animals after they were shot and left to die.
At least Nevada is taking this incident very seriously!
We were heartbroken to hear about this.

Megan Fox and Hubby Play With Tigers

Dayum!
Talk about playing with the cats!
Megan Fox and her hubby, Brian Austin Green were snapped playing with some tigers at Big Cat Encounters Ranch in Pahrump, Nevada.
Not only did they get to visit with a massive adult tiger, Megan got to feed a baby tiger a bottle of milk!
So adorbs!
The cub took a special liking to Brian as the two played together for over an hour!
It's nice to see Foxy using her time wisely since she's not shooting Transformers 3!

100 Horses Dead After Helicopter Roundup!
Horrible!
The Bureau of Land Management says that there are too many wild horses in the California/Nevada border range to carry, so they "roundup" and ship hundreds to BLM corrals and pastures in other states.
But what's really terrible is that animal activists say the roundups are extremely dangerous for the horses — over 100 died during a roundup in Nevada earlier this year.
Watch the report above!
