Luckiest Girl Alive Author Jessica Knoll Reveals She Was Gang Raped, Just Like In Her Novel — Read Her Brave & Heartbreaking Essay
This is equal parts brave and heartbreaking.
Rape is one of the most common issues that still goes unaddressed in today's society, which is why we need to acknowledge survivors' stories when they feel ready to share them.
Case in point, best-selling author Jessica Knoll just wrote a powerful essay about her own gang rape for Lena Dunham's Lenny Letters mailing list on Tuesday, and to call it moving would be an understatement.
You may know Jess as the author behind Luckiest Girl Alive, and while her fictional main character Ani is a victim of gang rape in the book, the writer never publicly shared that she herself was as well.
What I Know perfectly sums up the range of emotions a person can feel when they are attacked, and we could not admire Jessica more for putting her own experience out there to help others.
