Jennifer Lopez is opening up about the fallout of her divorce from Ben Affleck!
During an appearance on the SmartLess podcast on Monday, the 56-year-old actress looked back on that “puzzling” time in her life. You will recall that Bennifer got back together nearly 20 years after their initial 2002 engagement. It was a kismet second-chance romance, or so we all thought! They got married in 2022, but they were over two years later! And when Jennifer and Ben decided to get divorced, the singer recalled on the podcast that she had to “cancel [her] tour” to sit down and “f**king figure [her]self out.” She continued:
“What is going on with you? Forget about everybody else. There’s nobody to blame here except yourself in a certain way. Not that people don’t behave in a way that’s not great. But what are you doing? What do you have going on?”

No, Jennifer will not get into the details about how certain “people don’t behave in a way that’s not great.” Not on the podcast episode, at least. She did tell hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes she could share “over a glass of wine” one day. Ugh! So they get the tea, and we don’t! How unfair!
But that moment “a couple of years ago” was a “turning point” for J.Lo. The On The Floor artist realized she would “attract … certain things” into her life, adding:
“Whether people outside knew it or not, I felt like my life blew up in my own face.”
Jennifer said she had to look inward and study the “patterns” of her past relationships, and once she did that, she knew she needed to focus on herself more:
“I was able to go back to that little girl [I once was] and really look at her. And just kind of going like, ‘You did this. You did all of this. Give yourself a little f**king something. A little love! Stop looking for love in other things and give it to yourself.’”
Her sister, Lynda Lopez, also gave her very important advice! The Office Romance star said she told her to be her own “keeper” for once:
“These are all little pieces. I feel like the journey is little puzzle pieces that you fit in little by little as you sit there … and go, ‘It’s me.’”
After all the self-reflection, Jennifer expressed she is genuinely “happy” these days:
“The past 20 years have been this one thing, the past five years have been a tumult and the last two have been kind of the healing process from that tumult, where I really got to know myself. The person I am today is so different from the person I was even two years ago. It’s crazy.”
It sounds like the American Idol alum put in the hard work to get to a better place! Listen to Jennifer get real about her divorce (below):
