Elton replied (with just a touch of venom), “Mary J. Blige could win. Madonna hasn’t got a f***ing chance!”

And when Carson told him those were fighting words, he quipped back with “those are accurate words!”

But of course, when Madonna found out about it, her classy Madgesty only said, “Oh, damn him! May the best man win!”
