Welp! This year definitely won’t be going down as the Irish’s favorite St. Patrick’s Day!
Urban Outfitters already offended them with their stereotypical clothing, and now so has Nike!
As soon as they unveiled their Nike SB Dunk Low (aka the Black & Tans), Irish groups dropped their jaws.
The shoe was meant to pay homage to a popular St. Patty’s Day drink mix of stout and lager. But unbeknownst to Nike, “the Black and Tans” were originally a British paramilitary group known for brutally assaulting civilians during the Irish Revolution.
Ouch…
Nike apologized of course, insisting there was no intent or knowledge of the horrific history associated with the term. But maybe next time they should hire someone to do a lil’ Google research!
