Solar-Powered Plane Takes Flight!

There’s an experimental solar-powered plane that has just taken off from Madrid!
The fuel-efficient aircraft is heading to Morocco on its first transcontinental flight of 1,554 miles.
The single-seat plane has 12,000 solar cells and is the size of a jumbo jet.
It’s scheduled to land in Morocco’s capital later tonight, having left Spain early this morning, before sun rise.
This mission is just a late stage test before the company plans to take the plane around the world in one trip in 2014.
What’s crazy is the whole project cost about $100 million over the course of 10 years — but the pay off could be great.
Imagine, being able to fly from New York to Tokyo without using a drop of fuel.
