Mystery solved!
While J.K. Rowling would have liked to keep the secret to herself for a bit longer, we’re thrilled that the truth behind the authorship of her latest mystery novel, The Cuckoo’s Calling, has been revealed!
The book protected J.K.├óΓé¼Γäós identity, as written under the alias Robert Galbraith — the truth only disclosed to those involved in the publication process and her lawyers. And yet, it has since been revealed that the author├óΓé¼Γäós law firm Russells was responsible for the leak.
Though the Sunday Times reported the news, it seems Russells partner Chris Gossage opened up to his wife├óΓé¼Γäós best friend, Judith Callegari — the woman who wrote the tweet outing the book├óΓé¼Γäós true author.
Russells “[apologized] unreservedly” and released a statement confirming its part in the leak:
“We can confirm that this leak was not part of any marketing plan and that neither J.K. Rowling, her agent nor publishers were in any way involved.├óΓé¼┬¥
Meanwhile, the Harry Potter novelist has spoken out against the firm:
├óΓé¼┼ôOnly a tiny number of people knew my pseudonym and it has not been pleasant to wonder for days how a woman whom I had never heard of prior to Sunday night could have found out something that many of my oldest friends did not know.”
She added:
“To say that I am disappointed is an understatement… I had assumed that I could expect total confidentiality from Russells, a reputable professional firm, and I feel very angry that my trust turned out to be misplaced.”
Not the ideal situation, but at least now you know, J.K.!
