LeAnn Rimes
is eating her words.
The singer, who performed at New York’s Rockefeller Center‘s Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Wednesday night, received some harsh criticism for comments she made about the Eric Garner protests.
Throughout the course of the evening, protestors gathered at Rockefeller Center to express their outrage at the court’s decision to not indict a NYPD officer for the chokehold death of Eric.

Obviously, the protest caused a disturbance in close proximity to where Rimes performed and so she took to Twitter to vent about the situation.
Eddie Cibrian‘s wife tweeted:

Shortly after the tweet was posted, users criticized LeAnn for her lack of sensitivity and her ignorance about the protest.
One enraged person fired back:

“Riots aren’t sad you idiot. Someone being murdered by a police officer is sad. Get off Twitter and educate yourself.”

Woah, intense.
In response to the backlash, Rimes apologized, saying:

“My heart is in the right place. I am sad for everyone tonight. Those who are wronged, those who are struggling, those who are heartbroken. My heart is with you. I wish peace for all.”

Well, at least her apology acknowledged the feelings of the protestors.
It’s clear that the Eric Garner case is a hot topic for many people. We just hope Eric’s family is staying strong during this difficult time.
