Johnny Depp‘s last few films haven’t been his greatest, but that’s about to change thanks to the upcoming crime drama Black Mass!
The 51-year-old is playing Whitey Bulger, an infamous violent criminal in South Boston who became an FBI informant to take down the Italian Mafia!

Director Scott Cooper talked about how scary close the actor was in comparison to the real life criminal once Depp got in character, explaining:
“A lot of people on set knew Whitey intimately. They got chills at the resemblance. Some of them couldn’t even look at [Depp].”
The trailer is reminiscent of a Martin Scorsese gangster film, with some humor (funny? funny how?) and a good old fashioned intimidation scene during a seemingly innocent dinner. We also catch a peek at Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Bulger’s state senator brother!
