We applaud Evan Rachel Wood for speaking out on such an important issue!
On Thursday, the actress became emotional and passionate while engaging in a discussion about bisexuality on Twitter. For those who don’t know, Evan came out as bisexual in 2011 and has been an advocate for the community ever since.

I can assure you that whatever “straight privilege” I sometimes get accused of having, gets erased by #biphobia.

Remember, bisexuality doesn’t mean halfway between gay or straight. It is its own identity.

I think in some cases people don’t want to be labeled because they are ashamed to be bisexual. And this needs to stop.

I have battled with myself most of my life because I wasn’t gay or straight enough. I used to think I would never be happy. #biphobia

I had to go through the same panic and shame and depression a lot of people in the LGBT community go through–

— but when I came out a new found shame took over. Bi-shame. Feeling like people are judging you all over again but for different reasons.

— A weight was lifted but not completely. I still feel like we have to constantly prove ourselves & our worthiness within the community.

Wow, what powerful words! Considering Ms. Wood was once happily married to Jamie Bell AND has been in relationships with women, we understand why she’s passionate about her identity!
Obviously, Evan’s words sparked a lot of positive responses from fans… check out a few (below)!
@evanrachelwood thank you for being a strong voice for people like me <3

@evanrachelwood Nailed it. It’s a constant painful attempt at trying to attain “cred” within two communities, neither of whom accept fully.

Nice! Hopefully the mom of one was able to change some biases about bisexuals!
So, do U agree with Wood?
