GQ launched their 2017 Men of the Year issue on Monday, but this year’s is slightly different!
The glossy features Colin Kaepernick as one of their four cover stars, dubbing him Citizen of the Year! And the cover story “Colin Kaepernick Will Not Be Silenced” is actually a representation of the controversial athlete with quotes from just ten of his friends and confidants.

Colin purposefully decided to be silent in the article, as it’s explained:
“As his public identity has begun to shift from football star to embattled activist, he has grown wise to the power of his silence.”
In case you missed it, the 30-year-old filed a grievance against the NFL over claims they colluded to keep him from playing this season after kneeling during the National Anthem last year.
Unfortunately for the former 49ers star, his cover and new title have received a lot of mixed reactions on Twitter! Ch-ch-check them out (below) along with his cover and spread:

And as for those reactions??
“Citizen of the Year” @Kaepernick7 I stand to honor and acknowledge our current military, our veterans, and those who gave their lives in ALL wars this country has fought. It’s about honor and respect, and not your self-important political views. @NFL @NFLIStheProblem @POTUS

I don’t always agree w/ everything GQ’s Citizen of the Year, Colin Kaepernick (@Kaepernick7) has done, but I do believe he has stood his ground in order to make a statement that is important to him. He is what America is about. He threw away wealth in order to stand by his people

Dear @NFL,
If a team signs @Kaepernick7 now , you’re not only signing a guy that brought a real voice to the players in the league, but you’ll also be signing the “Citizen of the Year” pic.twitter.com/6BRu56Tzaw

Congratulations to @Kaepernick7 #CitizenoftheYear. Your courage inspired many to actually look at the darkness of systemic racism and police brutality. https://t.co/ahyMfn1iDT
