Wow, we honestly never thought we’d see the day Johnny Depp joined Instagram!
The Pirates of the Caribbean star is well known for being generous with fans in person but has basically been a ghost on social media for the past couple decades.

However, on Thursday he finally dipped his toe in and posted his first ever photo. He uploaded:
Is there a seance about to happen here? Or is this just how Johnny always lights his home??
LOLz! Actually by the look of that wall we think this could actually be from inside the Pirates ride at Disneyland! But who knows, maybe that’s just what Johnny’s basement looks like.
In the caption he didn’t exactly explain what we’re seeing here except to say that it was just a tease of the REAL first post:
“Hello everyone… filming something for you now… gimme a minute”
However just an hour later he posted an IGTV video he called “a message of good will,” telling everyone to stay home and stay close to those they love, saying:
“I know for the moment it feels like both our hands are tied behind our backs, and to some degree they are. But our minds are unbound, and our hearts are not chained. And we can care, and through caring we will help each other and we will prevail. Caring is as close as the eye can see, it’s right in front of you at all times if you just have a look.”
Johnny went on to encourage people looking for ways to pass the time to keep their minds busy by creating art, seeking out new music, and even making new music if possible, with whatever instruments they can find.
He then performed a cover of a John Lennon song. No, we aren’t joking. He and guitar legend Jeff Beck had previously recorded a cover of Isolation, which he linked to in his bio.
Finally, Johnny gave a personal message to his fans, saying:
“On a more, I suppose, personal note, thank you all for your kindness, your unwavering support and your strength over these years. I’m touched beyond words.”
