Amber Tamblyn Is 'Pro-Anger' When It Comes To Women's Rights: 'We Need To Fucking Hear It'

Amber Tamblyn
One voice that has always been fighting for women’s rights is Amber Tamblyn‘s — even before the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke.
Now, here we are in this watershed moment and The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants star is crediting female anger to the change we’re seeing.

In a new feature for Buzzfeed News, the 34-year-old actress says Donald Trump‘s presidency has only radicalized her even more:

“I am pro-anger. I am anti-passivity.”

She went on:

“There’s just no other way of putting it. And part of that radicalization is that I actually now will choose to believe the woman first without evidence. And I actually want to go from that. I want the man to prove he’s innocent. And that’s a very dangerous stance to take, I understand, but I don’t trust the American judicial system to tell us.”

And like most of us, Amber recognizes the #MeToo movement as painful (to constantly relive the norm of abuse) but necessary for change:

“This is fucking painful. And while it’s also painful that it’s taken a movement like this for this to happen, and it feels late, it’s here now. So let’s all capitalize on it together, and let’s all keep talking about how to keep this dialogue going.”

When asked if she thinks speaking her mind has affected her career, the activist responded:

“Perhaps it’s harmed me, perhaps it hasn’t. It’s hard for me to say. I do know that it’s definitely a freeing experience, at the very least.”

Having the conversation and facing what’s happening is the most important part, according to Amber:

“I think we need to sit in anger for a while, and that’s OK. I’m of that mind, I really am. And even when I get called on my own shit, whether it’s white feminism, or people asking me to be held responsible for something my husband did, or whatever it is across the board, I accept it … The anger has been deep for a long time, and now the volcano is erupting. I believe that that’s what it should do. …Whether or not that hurts you, or hurts me that you say it, we need to fucking hear it.”
