Twitter Points Out Anna Paquin Had More Lines In SAG Awards Speech Than She Did In 'The Irishman'!

Anna Paquin in The Irishman

Twitter did not stay silent during Anna Paquin’s SAG Awards speech!

During Sunday’s ceremony, the 37-year-old joined her The Irishman co-stars Ray Romano and Harvey Keitel to present the Netflix crime drama as one of the nominees for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture. Viewers couldn’t help but notice that Paquin had a lot to say on stage — at least when compared to her nearly-silent role in Martin Scorsese‘s film.

As Twitics pointed out, the Oscar winner spoke more during her brief speech at the awards show than she did in the three-and-a-half-hour film, which saw her character utter a total of seven lines of dialogue.

Paquin’s small role in the mob epic already sparked backlash when the film was released late last year, with some viewers blasting her mostly muted character in a film full of very talkative men.

The actress responded to the outrage back in November, explaining to upset viewers that silence was a key component of her character, Peggy Sheeran, the daughter of mafia hitman Frank Sheeran, played by Robert De Niro. She wrote on Twitter at the time:

“Nope, nobody was doing any ‘ordering’. I auditioned for the privilege of joining the incredible cast of @TheIrishmanFilm and I’m incredibly proud to get to be a part of this film.”

De Niro also defended Paquin’s role last month, telling USA Today that her performance was “very powerful.” He said:

“She was very powerful and that’s what it was. Maybe in other scenes there could’ve been some interaction between Frank and her possibly, but that’s how it was done. She’s terrific and it resonates.”

Well, it appears some fans are still bitter about it: on Sunday night, more than a few Twitter users used the actress’ speech to revisit her not-so-chatty character in the film.

The following was tweeted:

“Anna Paquin finally gets to speak for The Irishman. #SAGAwards.”

“Anna Paquin with more words presenting “The Irishman” than she had in the movie. #SAGAwards”

“Anna Paquin just spoke more words presenting The Irishman than she did in the movie. #SAGAwards”

“Similar to The Irishman, the intro for The Irishman at @SAGawards was Anna Paquin being pushed into the background in favor of aging white men. #SAGAwards #Annoying.”

Few remained tight lipped — yet not everyone subscribed to Twitter’s mob mentality. Many fans sided with De Niro and Paquin about the character and the role Peggy played in the story, with one tweeting:

“I think Anna Paquin’s silence in the movie speaks volumes.”

What do U think, Perezcious readers? Are these upset fans onto something, or should they take a note from Peggy Sheeran and pipe down?
