Brody Jenner‘s relationship with his dad continues to be on the rocks, as viewers saw on The Hills: New Beginnings‘ episode Monday night.
Sitting down for dinner with wife Kaitlynn Carter, his brother Brandon Jenner, and their mom Linda Thompson, it didn’t take long before the discussion turned to Caitlyn Jenner, and how the Olympian became absent from his life.

Echoing sentiments he has previously made about his father, like explaining their “very surface” relationship, the 35-year-old commended his mom for all her support:
“My dad and I have never really had a great relationship. Through all the ups and downs that my family has had, my mom has always been the rock.”
But despite her own past with Caitlyn, it was Linda who wanted Brody and Kaitlynn to forgive the former athlete for skipping out on the couple’s Indonesian wedding last June.
During her solo confessional on the episode, Kaitlynn spilled:
“Right before our wedding, Brody’s dad canceled on coming to the wedding, like a week before. Brody kind of brushed it off, but he has to have felt something. But he doesn’t express it.”
Although Brody did end up sharing some of his feelings about it, he subtly threw some shade, too:
“Not having my dad at the wedding, it was a bummer. Honestly, it really did hurt and I would have loved to have her there, but she had better things to do. Apparently.”
Ouch!
No wonder he hasn’t let go of that hurt yet!
While speaking about Cait bailing out on the destination nuptials, Linda reminded him:
“You’re not wrong to have your feelings hurt. You’re not wrong to be angry and to feel slighted. But you’ve just got to let it go.”
It’s something she said she learned after the pair got divorced in 1986, having learned earlier her husband wanted to transition.
The former actress recalled:
“I was so happily married to Bruce Jenner. I had this great normal life here in this little house in Malibu, until that fateful day… where Bruce said to me ‘I want to transition.’ My life just did a 180. In my mind, I had lost my normal, my family, my wonderful husband that I thought would be forever. I had just lost my marriage and the father of my kids. I was devastated. But that was just a momentary reaction. My greater sympathy had to go out to Caitlyn.”
Linda continued to explain:
“I don’t give Bruce, or Caitlyn, a pass for not being a father. I don’t think there’s any excuse ever for not being there for your children.”
The momma of two kept Caitlyn’s wanting to transition a secret, not telling her sons until they were in their late 20s, as the public, and apparently the Kardashian-Jenner crew learned of it in 2015.
Unfortunately for Brody, it seems like he and his father’s relationship could still use some work, but hopefully with a little forgiveness, they can move on.
