Russian Government Cancels Screening Of BTS Boy Band Film Over Concerns About 'Korean Homosexuals'

BTS Apologizes Nazi Symbol

A screening of a concert film focusing on the popular Korean boy band BTS has been canceled in a Russian city after officials apparently became concerned whether the group is gay.
According to The Moscow Times, the Russian city of Dagestan officially nixed a screening of the film BTS World Tour: Love Yourself from a performance in Seoul that had been scheduled to play at a theater there three weeks from now.

The movie was officially canceled just one day after tickets first went on sale; the screening had been set to begin January 26, and while it is supposedly still all set to play in a number of other Russian cities (at least for now), Dagestan has officially called off their showings.
Per the media reports, hundreds of local fans led a social media campaign to get the documentary to Dagestan in the first place, only to see it nixed so soon.
A separate online boycott in Russia, according to Kommersant, claimed the group promoted “over-the-top animal behavior” (WTF?!), and questioned whether the performers were all “Korean homosexuals.”
Hmmm… Not great, Russia!!!

For now, BTS fans in Dagestan who want to watch the movie have been encouraged to travel to nearby cities where it is still being allowed to screen. Hopefully, at least, that won’t change.
