While the 22-year-old doesn’t address the persistent Shawmila rumors, she does briefly explain what the eight-month process of working on their sultry duet Señorita together was like:

“I’ve known Shawn for such a long time, and it’s so much fun getting to work and do things with somebody who means a lot to you.”

Cabello, who is focusing on the “now,” seemingly stopped herself before giving a name of who she’s in love with (though we have our guess!), but hints he’s an influence on her forthcoming album:

“Falling in love is like an infinite amount of levels and layers and angles. I fell in love and just opened up. Everything was written in present moment.”

In mid-July, Trump taunted four congresswomen — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley — on Twitter, writing they should “go back” to the “totally broken and crime infested places from which they came,” and the former Fifth Harmony member, whose family escaped to the United States from Cuba in 2003, opened up about how it weighed on her at the time:

“That could have been me. That’s also what I was thinking as I was looking at the images of kids being held against their will. I was, like, there is literally no difference between these people and my mom.”

Something else Cabello feels strongly about is Miz Swift’s ongoing drama with Scooter Braun, who acquired her music catalog in a purchase from Big Machine Label Group. After Taylor made it clear she was “sad and grossed out” by the whole ordeal, many celebs including Camila publicly came to her defense:

“Because she is my friend. And someone in her position — which is, like, on another level — I can’t imagine how many times she’s been let down by people, or gotten disappointed by friends who were just using her, or people who just wanted to be friends with Taylor Swift or whatever. I’m happy to be there for her as a person. Like,‘Even when it’s not popular, I’ve got you. I’m, like, your real friend.’ With the Scooter thing, I feel her frustration. Getting f**ked over like that and not being able to have her masters? That sucks. When you think about how artists have to slave to make these things, and then you don’t own them, that is kind of a ridiculous concept.”

Coming into The X Factor as a teenage contestant, she nearly found herself in a similarly oppressive situation, but her manager was able to renegotiate her contract so she could maintain ownership over a wide array of her musical rights:

“He renegotiated my contracts to the point where it’s, like, incredible. I’m really lucky to have that. Because the thing that’s worth the most is the art.”

And while she may be pals with Taylor, she’s not so close with her former Fifth Harmony bandmates Normani, Lauren Jauregui, Ally Brooke, and Dinah Jane anymore:

“[It’s] not because there’s any animosity left — just the courses of our lives have drifted. But if I saw any of them at an awards show, I would say hi and it would be totally cool. It feels like there’s been a reset just because of the amount of time that’s passed.”
