We’re not going to cry… we’re not going to cry… we’re not going…
DEAR GAWD WHY!!!!
Dearest Tributes… we know that, like us, one of the things you’re really looking forward to in the upcoming Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire, is the arrival of Finnick Odair. Described within the pages of Suzanne Collin’s novel as the closest human resembling a Greek God, the film stars Sam Claflin as the affable and dead sexy champion from District Four.
Those who have comminted the story to memory recall that Finnick’s first encounter with Katniss involves the Tribute parade, some sugar cubes and an outfit made entirely out of a fishing net – and nothing else.
Yeah, let that image swim around in your brain. Let your mind’s eye imagine Sam in NOTHING but netting, knotted ever so delicately in front of his crotch.
And now prepare to be heartbroken, for despite the very specific instructions in the novel, Sam reveals that the creative team have taken a different approached with Finnick’s arrival in the movie – one where he is a little more clothed.
NOT. FAIR.
He shares:

“There are certain aspects you can’t include, one being, Finnick Odair wearing just the net, not covering his crotch – that was something that we couldn’t, unfortunately, include but you know, I’m scantily clad. Hopefully people will still be happy.”

Happy? HAPPY?!
We’ll survive, WE GUESS! But only, because following that sentiment, he added:

“I mean, for me, again, like, I was kind of – yeah [Finnick] definitely stuck out somewhat. But for all the wrong reasons. Very selfishly, that was the only character I really cared about. No, but the great thing about the books, um, that Suzanne Collins kind of created great arcs to each and every character. No matter, you know, from Katniss all the way down to her sister, her mother. You know each character kinda goes on a journey and I think that’s what’s so perfect about the books themselves.”

Translation: we’re at least going to be seeing A LOT of his pretty face! And really, we can live with that… because we can still run that image we just created back in our minds if need be!
