What a tragic end to an already sad tale.
Catfish is supposed to be a show about bringing star-crossed couples together, but unfortunately not every love story gets a happy ending.
It’s with a heavy heart we must report that Ashley Sawyer, a participant on the MTV show from back in Season Two, was found dead at age 23 on Monday.

Ashley’s cause of death is not currently known, but fans will remember her as the subject who realized she and her love interest Michael Fortunato were both “catfishing” each other.
What makes this news even sadder, however, is that Michael actually passed away from a pulmonary embolism at age 26 just a month after their episode aired in 2013.
Hosts Nev Schulman and Max Joseph each took to social media on Monday night to honor Ashley’s memory, saying:

Simple and sweet.
We’ll continue to update you as information comes in, but our thoughts are with Ashley’s friends and family at this unbelievably difficult time.
