Dakota Johnson Is Devastated By The Loss Of Her Iconic Tooth Gap: 'I'd Really Appreciate Some Privacy'

Dakota Johnson mourns over the loss of her gap tooth

Dakota Johnson asks you to respect her privacy as she grieves over a tragic loss: the iconic gap between her two front teeth.

After the premiere of her latest film Peanut Butter Falcon, fans were shook upon discovering the actress’ signature gap had mysteriously closed. Dakota’s dental drama went on to make headlines, with multiple outlets reporting on the hundreds of fans who were mourning over the devastating change.

As it turns out, the 29-year-old is also heartbroken about her new look — as it apparently wasn’t something she did intentionally.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Tuesday night, the actress admitted the headlines over her teeth were really stressing her out. She told Jimmy Fallon:

“The fact that this is newsworthy event in our world right now is pretty Chaka Khan to me.”

What’s even more Chaka Khan is the fact Dakota didn’t plan on losing the space between her teeth: it happened after she removed a permanent retainer that had been in her mouth since her teens!

She explained:

“I was having a lot of neck problems recently, so my orthodontist, she decided that it would be a good idea to take it off and see if my jaw expanded. It helped me and my gap closed by itself.”

Jimmy was doubtful a person’s teeth could cause neck problems, which led to Dakota giving him — and the audience — an impromptu lesson on human anatomy.

She noted:

“As you grow as a human being, your skull expands and your jaw and your teeth move. Your teeth don’t look like they did when you were a baby.”

And, just for the record, Dakota’s just as, if not more, devastated about it than the public:

“I’m sad about my gap tooth. So, I’d really appreciate some privacy in this time.”

Ha!

The actress explained the new situation in her mouth has led to swirls of problems in her life, like “getting food stuck in [her] tooth” because “before it would just slide right through.”

Although she may be without a gap now, Dakota’s confident her signature smile will one day return. She added:

“It’s going to come back. The world of dentistry is so advanced.”

Hmm… sounds like she’s still in the denial stage of the grieving process.
