Florida Congressman Accused Of Assaulting Woman At DC Penthouse -- So WHY Isn't Pro Trump Attorney Doing Anything???

Florida Congressman Caught Abusing Alleged Mistress, But Trump's US Attorney Refuses To Charge Him Because He's A Republican: REPORT

[Warning: Potentially Triggering Content]

Cory Mills, a Republican congressman from Florida, is under investigation for the alleged assault of an unidentified woman. According to NBC News, police were called to a penthouse apartment in a luxury building last Wednesday at about 1:00 p.m. in Washington, DC.

There, per a police report obtained by that outlet and others including News4, an unnamed 27-year-old woman told police that a man later confirmed by police officials to be Congressman Mills (pictured above, inset) “grabbed her, shoved her, and pushed her out of the door.” The officer from the DC Metropolitan Police Department who responded to the call also noted in the original report that he observed “bruises on her arm which appeared fresh.” Oh, no…

Now, Congressman Mills is married to a woman named Rana Al Saadi. She’s an Iraqi refugee who later became a naturalized American citizen and even worked in DC as part of President Donald Trump‘s first administration more than four years ago. She and Mills were married way back in 2014 at an Islamic center in Virginia, and they currently have one son together; Mills also has a second son from a previous relationship.

We bring all that up to say that while the alleged victim in this incident has NOT been identified or named, her reported age would seem to not match up with Al Saadi. After all, if Al Saadi were the 27-year-old woman involved, that would mean her 2014 marriage to Mills would have occurred when she was just 16 years old.

In addition to the couple’s 11-year-long marriage, a four-year-old story published in Virginia Business noted that by 2021, Al Saadi held a bachelor’s degree in English from Baghdad University and an executive master’s degree in business administration from Georgetown University. Obviously, that’d be a lot for a 23-year-old to achieve. Not impossible, we suppose, but, uh, yeah…

Anyways, per that initial police report, Mills allegedly told the officers who arrived on scene that he and the woman were having an argument that went from verbal to physical. The report states that the Congressman himself even admitted their altercation was indeed “severe enough to create bruising,” per News4.

NBC News further noted that the police report indicated officers have since moved to investigate the case as a “simple assault.” The alleged weapon used was listed as “personal weapons (hands/feet),” with the manner of the alleged assault noted as “force used — forced to another location.”

Ugh.

However, days after that report was first filed, News4 spoke to the woman involved in the alleged incident, and she denied the initial assault claims! Instead, she said this, per the outlet:

“I contacted law enforcement to address a personal matter… Although the argument was emotionally charged, there was no physical abuse involved.”

And as for the bruises?? She went on:

“[The bruises] were from medical conditions and activities from a recent overseas trip.”

As for his part in the matter, Congressman Mills’ spokesperson sent a statement to NBC News and other outlets denying all wrongdoing:

“Law enforcement was asked to resolve a private matter at Congressman Mills’ residence. Congressman Mills vehemently denies any wrongdoing whatsoever, and is confident any investigation will clear this matter quickly.”

Pretty unnerving, right? Well, that’s only HALF the story here!

See, at first, an MPD spokesperson told NBC News that Mills was indeed the subject of an investigation — but no charges had been filed, and he had not been arrested. As an MSNBC report on its MaddowBlog notes, that could be a pretty standard move (or, non-move) impacted by the the fact that detectives might not believe they have enough evidence to bring charges against the Congressman.

Or it could be a result of allegedly nefarious s**t on the part of the Trump-backed US Attorney’s Office! Per that same MaddowBlog report, earlier this week, the MPD confirmed that they actually did end up writing up and sending over an arrest warrant for Rep. Mills to interim US Attorney Ed Martin‘s office back on Friday! However, that warrant has apparently NOT been signed by a federal prosecutor!

For reasons that are not yet clear, it’s now been four full days since that arrest warrant was shipped off to Martin’s office, and yet it still hasn’t been acted upon. As MaddowBlog‘s report notes, it’s not exactly a common occurrence for the MPD to file arrest warrants on sitting members of Congress. Soooo you’d think once they did so in a case like this, they’d be pretty damn certain that they have enough to bring charges and go through the legal process, ya know?

But as that MSNBC report acknowledges, Martin is a vocally partisan Republican and Trump supporter, and it’s not yet clear whether his office’s inaction on Mills’ matter is merely because they truly don’t think there is enough evidence to prosecute the case, or because Trump-supporting Martin is trying to go easy on GOP lawmakers!!

After all, this wouldn’t be the first time in recent weeks that the latter issue has seemingly occurred. Prosecutors in Martin’s office have abandoned criminal cases against two Republicans — Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (a Nebraska Congressman who had already been found guilty of corruption by a jury!!), and Rep. Andy Ogles of Tennessee.

As for Rep. Mills’ charges, NBC News reports there is at least an internal investigation now underway at MPD to determine how that whole situation was handled. Maybe the local cops in DC can shed some light on this unsettling situation — especially if Trump’s US Attorney may not be so keen on, ya know, doing his f**king job.
