FINALLY!
[This is not really a SPOILER so don’t worry, fans.]
Game of Thrones stepped up their budgets for last season, but one character was still apparently out of their price range.
GHOST, Jon Snow’s faithful direwolf!
Now, visual FX supervisor Joe Bauer told HuffPo the beloved pet “has a fair amount of screen time in season eight.”

Believe it or not, we haven’t even seen Ghost since season six as he was notably absent from The Battle of the Bastards, where his master’s life was constantly in danger.
The problem is, wolves are trickier to animate than dragons because we know what they look like IRL.
“The direwolves are tough because you don’t want to get them wrong, so we end up always shooting real wolves and doing a scaling trick with them, but the real wolves only behave in certain ways.”
That combo of VFX and animal wrangling has proven more trouble than it’s worth most of the time. But we’re glad to hear for the final run they’re pulling out all the stops. As Bauer says:
“Ghost does show up, and he does some … he’s very present and does some pretty cool things in Season 8.”
