Gwyneth Paltrow finally shared her thoughts on her latest competition in the lifestyle brand market: Meghan Markle!
Meghan launched her company, American Riviera Orchard, last year but changed the name to As Ever after running into some issues over the trademark. As in, her application was denied! Long before the relaunch, though, people couldn’t help but think the Duchess of Sussex’s business reminded them of someone else’s: Gwyneth’s Goop.
Just like Kourtney Kardashian when she launched Poosh — a really obvious imitator at first — Meg got a lot of comparisons to the health and wellness brand founder! However, something tells us she won’t ever sell stone eggs for your vagina or something like the “This Smells Like My Vagina” candle as the Emma actress did! LOLz! Nor do we think the Duchess will ever focus on sex products like the other two brands!

Yet there can be no doubt As Ever is a huge competitor for Goop now! So, how does Gwyneth feel about Meghan’s new lifestyle brand? When Kourt launched her company and faced copycat accusations, she was super supportive of the reality star! She even said she was “so happy” to see new wellness businesses, insisting there is a “place for all of us.” Does she feel the same way now? It sounds like it! But she may have thrown a little shade at Meg as well?
In a new interview with Vanity Fair, published on Tuesday, Gwyneth — who has not even seen the trailer for the new show With Love, Meghan — made it clear she is not threatened by the Suits alum entering the lifestyle arena! In fact, she welcomes the duchess and even feels the need to defend her! As the Marvel star notes, when “there’s noise about certain women in the culture, I do have, always, a strong instinct to stand up for them.” She continued:
“I was raised to see other women as friends, not foes. I think there’s always more than enough to go around. Everybody deserves an attempt at everything that they want to try.”
The founder then recalled a certain lesson she learned from her mom, Blythe Danner, at around 19 years old. According to Gwyneth, she missed out on a role she greatly desired and complained about the actor cast. That’s when her mom chimed in to say:
“Another woman is never your competition … What is right for you will find you.”
That lesson has stuck with her to this day! She would rather be supportive of other women than look at them as competition! Especially since she wasn’t well-received when she first stepped into the lifestyle space either! Remember the comments Martha Stewart made about Gwyneth back in 2014 — six years after the launch of Goop? She said:
“She’s a movie star. If she were confident in her acting, she wouldn’t be trying to be Martha Stewart.”
Ouch!
Gwyn has never forgotten that dig! So, instead of being a Martha, she would rather be someone like Oprah Winfrey:
“And then you have someone like Oprah that’s like, ‘Of course I’ll be your first podcast guest.’ That’s how I try to be with other women.”
Could we see Meg on an episode of The goop Podcast soon? LOLz! We’ll see! In the interview, the Oscar winner also claimed she didn’t know Meghan or her hubby Prince Harry — even though she lives near the couple in Montecito! She said:
“I don’t know Meghan and Harry.”
Huh?
Here’s the thing! They’ve hung out before! It came out in 2023 that Gwyneth and her husband Brad Falchuck got sushi with Meghan and Harry! They were even joined by Cameron Diaz and her husband, Benji Madden, as well as Bumble CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd and oil heir Michael Herd. So, she does know Meghan and Harry! They aren’t complete strangers like she makes it sound! Gwyneth clarified:
“I mean, I’ve met Meghan, who seems really lovely, but I don’t know her at all. Maybe I’ll try to get through their security detail and bring them a pie.”
I’ve met her but don’t know her? The “through their security detail” comment? It kiiiinda feels like Gwyneth is implying the Duchess is standoffish! We mean… did y’all get that impression?
But in all seriousness, perhaps Gwyneth wasn’t trying to be shady! She could have been serious that she doesn’t know Meghan on a deeper, friend level (yet) despite having hung out in the past! We just would hate to see Gwyn not being a girl’s girl! We want women supporting each other — not shading or tear each other down! So, hopefully, it was some unintentional shade!
