Oh dear. Gwyneth Paltrow really put her foot in it this time!
We guess the Royal Tenenbaums star wanted to remind everyone how old school she is in her new Vanity Fair interview. That and the fact she’s very much still in her no effs given era. But maybe she didn’t think about how her much younger co-star might have some effs to give right now? LOLz!
OK, quick rewind — we learned from this same interview that Gwyneth and Timothée Chalamet share some serious sex scenes in their upcoming movie Marty Supreme. The 52-year-old made clear she and her 29-year-old lead share “a lot of sex” onscreen.
But this is her first movie in six years, since Avengers: Endgame — and her first doing anything like a sex scene in an even longer time! And things in Hollywood work a bit differently than she’s used to now. She spilled to the mag:
“There’s now something called an intimacy coordinator, which I did not know existed.”
OMG, seriously?? You can guess from her flippancy that she didn’t react well to the new process. The woman asked if she was comfortable doing a certain type of movement in bed, and she told her:
“Girl, I’m from the era where you get naked, you get in bed, the camera’s on.”
Gwyneth hasn’t done a TON of onscreen nudity, but she certainly didn’t shy away from it when required. She was topless in one of her very first movies, Flesh and Bone, when she was just 20 years old! And of course she had a nude love scene in her Oscar-winning turn in Shakespeare In Love. So yeah, she’s definitely been doing this longer than the intimacy coordinator has. But it sounds like she was totally unreceptive to the process! She told VF she and Timmy rejected the help of the intimacy coordinator!
“We said, ‘I think we’re good. You can step a little bit back.’ I don’t know how it is for kids who are starting out, but… if someone is like, ‘OK, and then he’s going to put his hand here,’ I would feel, as an artist, very stifled by that.”
So… she’s saying she and Timmy were happy to just… go for it? Let whatever happens happen? Damn! The movie is by Josh Safdie, who made Uncut Gems with his brother, so we imagine it’s going to be pretty intense. We guess that’s going to be true of the sex scenes, too!
While Gwyneth joked that she felt “109 years old” and like Timmy was “14” it was just another day at the office for a serious actress. Though she does respect that her co-star — while young to her — is a modern “sex symbol”:
“He’s such a thinking man’s sex symbol. He’s just a very polite, properly raised, I was going to say kid… He’s a man who takes his work really seriously and is a fun partner.”
Our question is, how will Kylie Jenner feel about these very steamy-sounding, cinéma vérité sex scenes?? Since she’s been dating Timmy he hasn’t done much on the sexy side, right? Wonka, Dune 2, A Complete Unknown… She hasn’t been with him on a movie like Call Me By Your Name where he really went for it with a co-star. And she mostly dates rappers, not actors… so will this whole experience be new for her?
