Gypsy Rose Blanchard Tells Mackenzie Shirilla To 'Grow Up And Take Accountability' -- Says Convicted Killer Has No 'Remorse'

Gypsy Rose Blanchard has a lot of thoughts on the Mackenzie Shirilla situation.

As we’re sure you’ve seen by now, Netflix‘s new doc The Crash has been going viral since its release. It delves into the case of Mackenzie, who’s been convicted of crashing a car on purpose in Ohio, killing two teens — her then-boyfriend and one of their friends. It’s a very eye-opening watch, and Gypsy has some opinions.

For one, while on the TMZ Podcast Friday, Gypsy said she doesn’t think Mackenzie will ever get out on early parole like she did. Of course, back in December 2023, she got out after serving eight of her 10 year sentence for the murder of her mother Dee Dee Blanchard. The 34-year-old said:

“I don’t think she’ll get early parole.”

She explained that she believes Mackenzie shows zero “remorse” for her actions — and that’s going to have to happen before anything else does:

“But most importantly, remorse. And family. So, if the victim’s family writes against her parole, she will automatically be denied. I’ve seen it happen time and time again with different women [who were] in my prison. They prioritize the victim’s family above everything.”

Gypsy was then asked “if and when” Mackenzie starts to show remorse, will she be able to sway the parole board? She said Mackenzie is still “young” and it’s probably not going to “sink in” for several years:

“It’s gonna take a lot of work on her part. She’s gonna have to do a lot of extensive therapy … But what’s going to happen is, she’s going to go in front of the parole board. They’re gonna keep setting her back in five-year increments. I think that needs to happen.”

She added that Mackenzie needs to “grow up and take accountability” for her actions:

“The time that she’s in prison right now, she needs to grow up and take accountability. Remorse is something that maybe is not coming natural right now because maybe it’s something she hasn’t dealt with internally and emotionally.”

As for said remorse? The Life After Lockup star says it’s going to hit one day — and it’s going to hit HARD:

“But it’s going to hit her like a train. And when that happens, she needs to take those steps to do what she needs to make amends with the victim’s family. It’s on them if they want to forgive her. They don’t have to forgive her by any means.”

Another point the podcast brought up is how Gypsy has turned to the “influencer” world after her release. Gypsy has been keeping super busy on social media, and even has a podcast now. So the host decided to get her opinion on Mackenzie possibly one day cashing-in on her story. And Gypsy doesn’t think it’s a good idea!

She said:

“I think that Mackenzie should not benefit from social media or any other kind of avenue.”

But why? Isn’t Gypsy also a convicted murderer? She explained:

“I don’t feel like victims of abuse should be kept silent. They should be able to tell their story in a book or a documentary, or however they want to. But there is no mitigating evidence in this specific case, there is no abuse, there is no sympathetic story behind it, for that to be okay. So in her case specifically, no I don’t think she should monetize, no I don’t think she should be an influencer on social media.”

Hmm… Lots of insight and thoughts from Gypsy!
