In other words, would people still tune in if the show continued on AFTER we finally meet the Mother?
That’s the burning question facing the creators of the show as How I Met Your Mother goes into its 8th season. All this time, it seemed understood that the show would finally end when Ted actually met the bother of the children he’s been boring with stories for the last eight years. But according to executive producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, should the show get ANOTHER season renewal after next year, they might consider finally bringing the mother in.
One idea being considered is to spin-off the show after Ted meets his match. The cast would stay intact — plus one — and be renamed to something like, After I Met Your Mother. Another idea, according to Craig Thomas:

“We’ve had conversations about rewinding back to 2005 and doing a series called How I Met Your Father. From the perspective of what was happening with the Mother all those years. Occasionally, she’ll stumble through McLaren’s and no one will see her.”

Eh. Unless she is somehow related to the cast in a distant way, keeping Neil Patrick Harris and Co. in the picture, we can’t say we’re too interested in that. But we’d take it over option 3, which Craig explains as:

“One way to go is to finish the [mother] story at the end of Season 8, and then Season 9 is, ‘Oh, by the way kids, I left some stuff out…,’ And then it’s just 24 little stories that took place over the course of the series here and there. Like, ‘Here’s something funny that happened in 2006.’”

Nah! That’s too confusing. Too much jumping around.
Go with the first idea: After I Met Your Mother. It will actually work more like a sequel than a spin-off, since you’ll be able to keep the entire original cast onboard. Has that ever been done before? A sequel to a TV franchise???
What do U think?
