Jack White has made it clear that The White Stripes are donzo, but he wants everyone to know that it’s not his fault!
In a recent New York Times Magazine profile, the singer revealed that it was actually his ex-wife and drummer, Meg White, that wanted to end the band for good, explaining:
“Some people can live their whole lives in limbo. I’d rather cut the lifeline so we can move on with our lives. There came a point where I said, ‘If we’re not doing this, we need to put an end to it right now.’ And that’s what she wanted to do.”
The rock band officially ended their musical union with an announcement in February 2011 and, as it turns out, he may miss it more than his fans! If he could, Jack would pick up a guitar and record a White Stripes song “right now,” saying:
“I’d make a White Stripes record right now. I’d be in the White Stripes for the rest of my life. That band is the most challenging, important, fulfilling thing ever to happen to me. I wish it was still here. It’s something I really, really miss.”
He hasn’t given up on music, however. Listeners can hear Jack shred on his first solo album Blunderbuss, which will be available on April 24.
