Well, it’s official!
Today, some of the biggest titans of the music industry have been gathered by Jay Z to celebrate the re-launch of Tidal — the streaming service that’s supposed to change the way we listen to music!!
The 45-year-old rapper assembled quite the squad to commandeer the event: Beyoncé, Kanye West, Madonna, Rihanna, and Nicki Minaj were all present.
But it didn’t stop there! Alicia Keys, Usher, J. Cole, Jack White, Arcade Fire, and Daft Punk were some of the other artists present for the launch to sign a declaration.
Tidal will offer CD-quality audio and video but uses no free ad-supported service. The streaming service will offer monthly subscriptions — $19.95 for high quality streaming and $9.95 for standard quality.
The service has deals with all of the major record labels. And Mr. Carter has already coaxed artists to sign over their songs, even the anti-Spotify Taylor Swift!

In an interview with Billboard, Jay explained that the goal of Tidal was to produce a streaming service that appropriately compensated the artist. The rapper had this to say on if the artists would be making more money on Tidal than on Spotify:
“Will artists make more money? Even if it means less profit for our bottom line, absolutely. That’s easy for us. We can do that. Less profit for our bottom line, more money for the artist; fantastic. Let’s do that today.”
While we’re not sure if Tidal will take off or not, Mr. Carter would just be happy to start a dialogue on how artists are compensated for the streaming of their music.
But he’s still giving us plenty of reasons to be on #teamTidal├óΓé¼┬ª
