Jack White Slams The 'Taylor Swift Way' Of Writing Music About Breakups! WHAT?!

Jack White is coming for Taylor Swift‘s songwriting!

The White Stripes star is making it known to the world he’s not a fan of Tay Tay’s style of lyricism. We don’t think anyone asked about him about her in particular, but he’s name-dropping her anyway!

In an interview with The Guardian over the weekend, the journalist asked if he ever wrote “entirely autobiographical” songs, to which he said:

“Not too much. Now it’s become very popular in the Taylor Swift way of pop singers writing about all of their publicly aired break-ups, which I don’t find interesting at all. I think it’s a little bit boring for me to write about myself. Even if I’ve had a really interesting day, I feel like I’ve already lived that, I don’t need to go through it every time I sing this song.”

Well, good for you! But was it really necessary to throw the best-selling female artist of all time under the bus? Plus, most artists tend to use their own lives and experiences as muses. Remember when Beyoncé aired out JAY-Z‘s dirty cheatin’ laundry on Lemonade? And remember the track Don’t Hurt Yourself? Yeah, Mr. White collaborated with her on that one, so…

Sounds like he just wanted to bring back that “Taylor only writes about her exes” narrative — which we know isn’t true! But he’s a 50 year old dude from a rock band… Go figure.

To make things even more ironic, Jack went on to fully admit he writes the SAME way Taylor does. If he bothered to pay attention maybe he’d know that! He said:

“If it’s something really painful, I’m not going to put this important, painful thing that I went through out there for some idiot on the internet to stomp all over. So I put a percentage of that into what I do and then morph it into somebody else’s character. I can’t really learn about myself until I put it into somebody else’s shoes.”

So he takes “a percentage” of his own experiences and makes a “character” around them? Like… the entire plot of Folklore and Evermore?

He continued:

“Yeah, I don’t give them names or anything but I have these imaginary folks that pop into my head while I’m doing it. You can learn by asking: what would this other person say? That’s a lot more interesting than preaching to people, here’s the problem and here’s how to solve it, as if you’re so smart and so wise. Real wisdom comes from admitting you don’t know anything and other people might have an answer you’ve never thought of.”

Well hi Betty, James, and Augustine! That’s exactly what the 35-year-old pop star did with those albums, she just decided to give them names in her songs… You have a lot more in common with T-Swizzle than ya think, Jack! Get off that high horse!

Not to mention he says he doesn’t want to put his pain into his music. Which, fine. But Taylor — and TONS of other artists do! Tay even admitted writing The Tortured Poets Department, which is one of her most emotional albums to date, helped her through a hard time.

Glad you’ve got your own way of coping, dude, but no need to slam other writers!

Plus, it freakin’ works. Taylor wouldn’t be where she is — about to get inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame this year — if people didn’t love her style. Jack, open your eyes! And your ears!!

Sounds like he saw those awful misogynistic memes of Taylor a decade ago and has yet to look into her career since. Ugh. The Brads and Chads strike again…
