James Franco has optioned Sal Mineo: A Biography as a potential writing-and-directing vehicle. The book details Mineo’s rise to fame in films such as Rebel Without a Cause and Exodus, along with details about his dark side.
Although he became the youngest performer nominated for a best supporting actor Oscar, Sal was murdered at the age of
37 after being stabbed by a pizza delivery man.
The book incluides insights into Mineo’s life given by Dennis Hopper, along with Mineo’s fiancee Jill Haworth and male lover Courtney Burr.
