We love it when models land major magazine covers! It’s so rare these days!
Joan Smalls gets her first-ever Elle cover for the January issue. We can only hope they make a habit of featuring more models in the future!
The 25-year-old looks like a saucy glamourpuss on the mag’s front in a gold Givenchy dress with a triangle cutout at the bodice that reveals just a hint of side boob.
Inside the spread, Joan does what she does best — posing in some of the world’s more luxurious designs by Chanel and Gucci.
She’s like a Beyonc├â┬⌐ and Tyra Banks hybrid!
She also gets candid about the lack of diversity in the fashion world, saying:
“People hide behind the word aesthetic. They say, ├óΓé¼╦£Well, it├óΓé¼Γäós just that designer├óΓé¼Γäós aesthetic.├óΓé¼Γäó But when you see 18 seasons in a row and not one single model outside a certain skin color├óΓé¼┬ª? There are people in the industry who are advocates, who support diversity. And there are people who do not. I don├óΓé¼Γäót get it. Beauty is universal. These doors have to open.├óΓé¼┬¥
Absolutely agreed!
The model also reminisces about her early years as a model. She said:
“I came to New York with a dream. I came to do what I saw girls doing in campaigns, in editorials├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥great things, challenging things.”
Finally, she talks about her desire to be an actress in the future, saying:
“I want to be clear that I don’t want to act just because it’s the typical move for a model. My desire comes from a place of wanting to entertain people on a different level.”
She should be in a movie with Cara!
